ParticipantMy client has noticed that they are unable to add/edit events and use their own venue. I verified this with one of their events. If I go to the Venue section, I see that it has selected an event that is the same name as the event. If I scroll up to add a new venue, it lets me… but after I update it, it reverts to the event name. And my new venue is not found in the list. If I go to the public view of the page, it still uses the event title for the venue… but I see that is is using the address I added for the new venue.
RELATED: The venue address shows the city/state/zip twice.

MemberHi chirocare – I’m afraid I’m not really clear as to the first problem you described.
Would you be able to break this down into a set of steps I can replicate and perhaps even provide screenshots to illustrate what you are saying?
RELATED: The venue address shows the city/state/zip twice.
Hmm, yeah I see that. Is it possible the city, state and zip have been entered twice in two different fields (can you attach a screenshot showing the Venue Information meta box for that venue)?
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks for the response!
Here’s some screenshots:

Shows that the Event Title is being used for the Venue Name

Shows me entering in a test venue. I then hit Update.

Shows that, after updating, the Venue Name goes back to the Event Title. And my new Venue Title is not found in the list.

On the page itself, the new venue address appears… but the Venue Title is still the Event Title. It really just seems that a new venue is being saved, but for some reason it is taking the Event Title’s value for the Venue Title. Is this a bug? Also, I think maybe you are right about the duplicate address line issue. In that particular situation, I think that the client had added the venue once and then I tried to. Because it is saving with the Event Title as the Venue Title, I think it happened twice and associated both instances with the Venue/Event Title. What is the meta box?
April 3, 2013 at 11:45 am #44774Barry
MemberA meta box is just the name given (in the WordPress world) to the grey boxes used to group different fields together – for instance in the event editor there is an Event Categories meta box over on the right and an Event Options meta box right below it.
Thanks for providing those screenshots and comments – that gives me a clearer idea of the problem which is, needless to say, pretty strange. I haven’t heard of this before and can’t replicate it so I can’t help but suspect a conflict.
Are you in a position to run through our standard troubleshooting steps?
- Please ensure that your Modern Tribe plugins are up-to-date and in-synch … for instance if you are using The Events Calendar 2.0.11 you must also use Events Calendar PRO 2.0.11
- Deactivate all other plugins and change your theme to a default, unmodified one such as Twenty Eleven or Twenty Twelve
- Now test to see if the problem still exists
- If the problem has been solved by these steps, start reactivating everything one-at-a-time, testing at each point to see if the issue has returned
- If the issue does return, take note of whichever plugin (or theme) you reactivated immediately before it started again – it’s likely there is a conflict with this item

ParticipantThe Events Calendar plugins are synched and up-to-date. However, I can’t deactivate everything at the moment.

MemberOK, well that would be the next step – and an alternative would be creating a new installation just for testing. See if everything works out of the box with just Modern Tribe’s stuff then start adding the same plugins (and theme) as you are using on your production site – and figure things out that way.

ParticipantOkay, I got permission to try deactivating things in the evening quickly…Here’s what I did:
1. Deactivated all but the event-related plugins (free and PRO versions of the Events Calendar, the Community add-on). Still got the same issue.
2. Activated the 2012 theme. WAS able to keep the new venue associated with the event.
3. Re-activated the previous theme. Was not able to add a new venue. However, I was able to reselect the one I wanted from step #2.So, it seems like the theme would somehow be at fault. How would this effect the admin side of things? This is a site I inherited and the original developers used the Bones starter theme (http://themble.com/bones/).
What would you suggest next?

MemberThemes can affect just about any aspect of WordPress, the admin environment included. I can take a quick look at the theme and see if anything jumps out, if you want to send across a copy (just in case it has customizations/also requires a child theme etc beyond what I can download from themble.com/bones).

ParticipantI have the same problem, for a theme I’ve built myself. No matter how many times I put in a new venue location, the event title is substituted instead. Chirocare’s screenshots match mine.
Any thoughts on next steps?April 10, 2013 at 9:16 am #45470Barry
MemberWhat we’d like to try first of all – if you guys are up for trying this out – is determining if this is still a problem with our forthcoming 3.0 release.
Though it is still beta code and we don’t recommend using it in production you could definitely get a copy from us and test things out (ideally in a test site/development site initially).
If you’re up for that, please email my colleague Rob (email address: rob at tri.be) and include a link to this thread so that he sees the context of your request for 3.0.
Thanks!

ParticipantSure thing. That would make me a beta tester for v2 and v3!

MemberFantastic 🙂
Please do email Rob and he’ll take things from there.
