Venue Details and Organizer Details Dropdowns Not Showing

Hi. The dropdowns within the Venue Details and Organizer Details sections aren’t showing on the Community Events Add page.

I’ve looked at the page in FireFox, Safari and Chrome and they all look the same – no dropdowns.

With my current theme active, I removed my custom css and the problem was still there…
I reverted to the default 2015 theme and the problem was resolved…so it seems like the issue is my theme.

Hi Molly,

I’m sorry you’re hitting up against difficulties.

Though I appreciate you’ve isolated this to your theme and the fix may well be in that direction, I also see an error relating to a plugin called Yikes Inc Easy Mailchimp Extender.

We do occasionally see “compound” conflicts and so just to eliminate that possibility here I wonder if you could try deactivating that specific plugin (but keep your theme active this time!) and see if the problem is still present or if this resolves it.

Thanks for giving that a try, Molly.

So on further investigation it appears some code in a script called “jackbox-for-mightymag.min.js” is causing the problem.

Unfortunately, because it has been minified (compressed into an unreadable form) it is very hard to guess at which part of the script in particular is causing the issue – and I suspect an unminified version may not have shipped with the theme.

At this point, would it be possible for you to approach the theme vendor (feel free to link to this topic if it helps to provide context) and let them know:

• The width of dropdowns on this particular page are being set to zero
• It seems to be the theme’s “jackbox-for-mightymag.min.js” script that is responsible

Knowing that’s where the problem is, they may be able to offer further guidance or, if nothing else, provide the unminified source code for that script.

Could we try that?

I appreciate you taking the time to reach out to them and obtain that code, but unfortunately it’s not massively helpful here — beautifying the minified code is something we can easily do ourselves, but the result is still basically obfuscated code that isn’t particularly easy to read and understand.

Normally the actual source will contain meaningful function and variable names and, ideally, some commentary which can make it far easier to read and understand, so that would be preferable here (and, just to highlight this, the theme stylesheet indicates that the theme is made available under the GNU General Public License – so requesting the source is more than reasonable and they really ought to comply with that).

We actually have a similar policy when it comes to supporting third party integration issues (though of course we generally try to help if we can) so I can sympathize with their position a little, but we would need them to meet us in the middle here.
