Vary featured image for recurring event?

I’ve been asked to find out if it’s possible to vary the featured image for a recurring event. The goal for regularly recurring events like kids tours and such that might sit side by side in the list view would have a little image variety without having the added work of creating each occurrence as a single event. I’ve created a weekly recurring test event on our dev site as an example.
Deactivating other plugins and/or reverting to 2014 isn’t necessary for this question so I haven’t done it. Please let me know if I can provide any more info to help answer this question. Thank you!

Thanks for getting in touch with us! Let me try to help you with this topic.

There is no built in way to achieve that besides editing each individual instance. But this will of course break it apart from the recurring event.

If you want to show two different images, one for the main event and one for the recurring instances, then you could add a second image to the event that will only show up in the the recurring instances, but this will require some custom coding.

Please let me note that we are limited in how much support we can give for custom development questions like this, but we always like helping out and at least point you in the right direction as much possible.

Thanks, I figured as much. I don’t think it’s going to be a big problem at this time and having only one other image for all the other recurring events doesn’t solve the original issue. Breaking the events out into singles seems the best option at this time. Are there any plans to provide a way to say, create an array of images for recurring events that would display randomly perhaps? Something to break up the look? Just checking. Thanks!
