ParticipantHi, phillyfreeschool. Congrats on taking the plunge on what was a huge upgrade that involved major changes to the way The Events Calendar works. Basically, we went from events being regular posts in a category called events to a custom post type, with a totally separate taxonomy of categories all our own. (Tags are still universal.)
Unfortunately, now that we’re well into the 3.x product lifecycle, we aren’t really in a position to offer you support on 2.0. What we can do is offer you the last release of version 2 (2.0.11) from which you can complete the upgrade to the latest version 3 release, a much smoother process than the one you just completed. Once you’re there, we’d be happy to do whatever we can to make sure you’re back in business.
Also, in looking over your calendar, I noticed that the single event listings weren’t resolving. It might help you to flush your permalinks to get that settled.
Thanks for being a loyal TEC user!

ParticipantThanks Kelly. I was told by someone on your team to upgrade to 2.0 first. How do I flush my permalinks? The single events used to resolve, I suppose that happened after the failed migration to 2.0

ParticipantHi, phillyfreeschool. We really do need you to be on our current lifecycle in order to provide you support. That means upgrading first to 2.x and then to 3.x.
Flushing permalinks is necessary after the 2.x upgrade because the pages have moved. (It can actually help at other times when your links don’t seem to be behaving themselves, too.) To flush them from the dashboard:
1. In the main menu, find Settings -> Permalinks.
2. Scroll down, if needed, and click “Save Changes”.Let us know how it goes!

ParticipantI have upgraded. All of my events are gone. I didn’t set this up originally, but I think it’s because the events all want to be at /events whereas they used to be at /categories/events. Please help because our calendar is now empty!

ParticipantHi, phillyfreeschool. I know this is frustrating, but please don’t be discouraged! Once you’re through the upgrade process things should get much easier.
I just took a gander at your site, and it looks to me like your upgrade worked great! You can see the events here:
http://www.phillyfreeschool.org/events/upcoming/
Since your event data are intact and you didn’t have data loss, the next step would be to massage your site to work with the structure of TEC 2.x (like the location you mention above) as well as the design elements. To that end, I’d recommend checking out our Themer’s Guide, linked in the right sidebar of the forum. If you’re looking for more in-depth documentation of the ins and outs of the plugin, please take a look at our techincal documenation which we completely overhauled as part of our 3.0 release to make it extra-clear and useful: http://docs.tri.be
We know that the task of getting your theme looking consistent again after a plugin upgrade can be daunting. If you’re starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by it all, we’d be happy to pass along the names of some developers that we’ve worked with in the past. One of them should be able to help you get the CSS and aesthetics modified to the extent that they’ll integrate properly with the new templates and will get the calendar looking like you want it.
Thanks for being a loyal TEC user, and please let me know if you have any further questions!
