Updating without loosing personnal translation

Hello!

I have on my website The Events Calendar and The Events Calendar PRO. I did a personnal translation of the PO/MO in French and because the website is about flea market organisation I changed everywere the word “Event” for “Flea Market” (In French “Brocante”).

It works fine but when I make a update I loose my translation and I have to manually go in the FTP and install my old PO/MO files.

Is there a way to update the plugin without loosing the actual translation?

We are sorry to hear about the updates overwriting your translations.
I would love to help you with this topic and offer to continue the conversation in French if you prefer.

The good news is that we will soon add a feature where you can simply store your customized translations in your /wp-content/languages/ folder and not worry about that. Unfortunately, I cannot commit to a release date at this point. But stay tuned!

In the meantime, you have a couple of options available for you:

• You could use the following snippet to automatically change événement for brocante: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/change-the-wording-of-any-bit-of-text-or-string/ without editing the translation files
• Place your customized language files in the/wp-content/languages/ and add the following snippet in your theme’s functions.php file: https://slack-files.com/T0258N5TN-F187DLKF1-aed0afca3c
