Hi, I am new to customizing plugins and am running into an issue when I update the plugin that all my edits are removed. How do I go about making it so my updates in the core files (such as customizing text) get reverted when I update the plugin?

The short answer is you are better off using a child theme to store your customizations.
You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.
