ParticipantHi
Just did an update for the Events Calendar, but now I can’t find the plugin anymore and I have notices that I have to install it. Tried that, but ‘source map already existst’. What to do?

ParticipantUploaded the Events Calendar file via FTP, now I get this message in WordPress, what to do?:

MemberGood evening Kiki and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about the calendar crashing after your latest update. Yikes!
I would love to help you with this topic.First off, major kudos on the testing so far.
Even though the calendar has not yet reappeared, this was the correct approach to fixing things. Before attempting anything else, it is wise to do a database backup for extra safety.
When it comes to that type of issue, it is preferable to troubleshoot in a staging environment if you have one.
If not, consider activating a “Maintenance Page” plugin if you are doing this on your live site (to minimize impact on your visitors).
A first quick test is to simply:
- Using FTP, temporarily rename the other the Events Calendar plugin folders (Filter bar, Community Events, Pro) to something like /z_the-events-calendar-filterbar/.
- Temporarily revert back to a default WordPress theme such as twenty-sixteen
This will ensure that there are no conflicting versions of our plugins and no customizations from your theme at play.
Then:
- Delete the /the-events-calendar/ folder using FTP
- Make sure all of your caching plugins are disabled and the cache emptied
- Download a fresh copy of the Events Calendar here https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-events-calendar/
- Activate it and see if the issue is gone
If it is, it will be a matter of:
- Making sure the other the Events Calendar are at their latest version (comparing with the version found here: https://theeventscalendar.com/my-account/downloads/
If not, please delete the plugin folder using FTP and install a freshly downloaded version
- Reactivating the plugins one by one
- Revert back to your theme as the last step.
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Thank you for your answer. My host was able to install a backup from a week ago and it works again. I’m quite scared to do another update now… Any idea what could have happened? And how to prevent is from happening again?
Best wishes,

MemberHi Kiki,
We did have an unfortunate blip which triggered an error similar to what you described and that was since corrected. I would simply recommend making a backup and trying again: I’m sure you’ll have more luck this time 🙂
Our apologies for the inconvenience first time round.

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
