ParticipantOnce again I have run an update on Events Calendar via my WP dashboard and my entire site has gone t*ts up again!!!!!!!! This is twice now, it happened on the last update.
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.I am growing very tired of this indeed.
Also got this
There is an update available for The Events Calendar PRO but your license key is out of installs. Visit the Modern Tribe website to manage your installs, upgrade your license, or purchase a new one. [X]
There is an update available for The Events Calendar: Eventbrite Tickets but your license key is out of installs. Visit the Modern Tribe website to manage your installs, upgrade your license, or purchase a new one.
Does anything on this plugin just work properly!?!?!?!

ParticipantMy web hoster claims that the update messes up the .htaccess files. Any ideas??

MemberHi Graeme,
Sorry to hear that you’ve experienced such a plethora of problems.
I’m not quite sure why the messages about your license keys being out of date are a problem for you … I’m guessing they are inaccurate in your case? Can you confirm that you have indeed entered the relevant keys in Events > Settings and that they have not expired?
My web hoster claims that the update messes up the .htaccess files. Any ideas??
I’d need some more information. Can you provide a copy of your .htaccess file in its “messed up state” for us to look at, or a note of exactly how it was messed up (if you’re hosting provider provided that information)?
Can you also provide some details about your hosting environment – what operating system and web server is in use (this might for instance be CentOS 6.3 and Apache 2.4.3 – if in doubt ask your host)?
Thanks!

ParticipantSorry for the anger in the original post and the delay in getting back to you. I will tell you what I can.
Licenses – I just checked my account here and my WP dashboard, all keys are correct but give the message “Sorry, this key is out of installs.”. Expiry on my account here is marked as July 2013.
Here is an htaccess file copy:

DirectoryIndex index.cgi index.php

# BEGIN WordPressRewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f

My hoster runs Apache 2.4.3 I would need to confirm further details.
Any help/advice appreciated.

OK – in the first instance can you go here and if possible remove the license(s) for each affected site, then log back in to your site and re-enter or re-submit the keys?
If that fails to resolve this please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and send an email including your PayPal receipt (or transaction number, simply because it helps us to work through these issues in a more timely manner) with a link to this thread to [email protected], marking your email for the attention of my colleague Leah. She’ll be happy to assist.
Here is an htaccess file copy
Interesting; I’m unsure why our plugin would cause the rules to be repeated so many times. I’m also confident that it would not have generated this rule in particular:
eRule ^index\.php$ – [L]Does these problems with the .htaccess file only happen when you update The Events Calendar/Events Calendar PRO? What other plugins are currently active in your installation?

ParticipantWill follow up the licenses shortly.
The updates is another matter as this is causing a major headache. Yes, it’s only TEC updates that are causing this. Other plugins I have are:
Advanced YouTube Embed Plugin – Embed Plus
Cool Facebook Like Box
Google Analyticator
Gravity Forms (+ Picatcha and Mailchimp add on)
NextGEN Gallery
Shareaholic
TinyMCE Advanced
The Events Calendar: Eventbrite Tickets
The Events Calendar
The Events Calendar Pro
WordPress SEO
WP Boxer Pro
WP Video LightboxAnything rogue in that lot?

MemberNothing that’s jumping out at me, to be honest, though I can’t help but think there might be some other issue at work. People do report issues with updates but nothing I have seen quite like this.
When .htaccess is set up to allow for pretty permalinks then – to the best of my knowledge – any further flushes of permalink rules such as might happen on updates or activation/deactivation will not (should not) generate further changes in that file, only to the list of rewrite rules held in the database.
So, one strategy could be to change the file permissions on .htaccess to prevent WordPress from changing it in the future. Of course – if in future it determines that a change is necessary and can’t do it, then it will flag this up on the Settings > Permalinks admin page.
