Tutorial on How to Register Custom Widgets?

I am attempting to modify a widget in Events Calendar Pro (next-event-widget.php) to create a slightly different display and feature set.

Another user outlined his steps on how to customize a widget and register it. I have done my best to follow the steps, but I cannot see the modified widget popping up in Widgets list.

Modern Tribe has a tutorial on how to do this with your 2.0 product, but the guide clearly says this does not work with 3.x.

Could you create a tutorial on how to do this with 3.x? I would be happy to work with you to make this a reality. Could you please outline the steps needed to register a modified Events-Calendar-Pro widget such as next-event-widget.php and make it display in the list of available widgets in WordPress 3.7x?

I think this could help a lot of people who are working to integrate Events Calendar Pro into their web sites.

Hi, wallyglenn. That’s an awesome tutorial idea! 🙂 Thanks so much for the suggestion.

Right now, we’re all focused on getting our next maintenance release out the door. Once that’s complete, we’ll definitely look into it as we hit tutorials.

Realistically, that means that it wouldn’t be any sooner than the next couple of weeks but if you don’t have a hard deadline, we are definitely game to look into this.
