Hi — just purchased Aggregator, now trying to sync it to a Facebook business page I manage (I’m permissioned as admin but am not the owner)…
When trying to log in to that FB business page the only option I can see is my own personal account… how do I log into that FB business page when in Aggregator so I can sync the event updates from it?

It only gives me an option to log in as my own personal account…

What can I do to change this?

    Hello Edmund,

Thanks for using our plugins and welcome to the forums! I’m sorry about this issue you are having with Event Aggregator, let me try to help you with that.

As a first, I’m really sorry, but we don’t provide email support, we only provide support here in the forums.

Forum reply notifications only get sent to the address in your My Account page. If you want replies to go to a different email, updating your account’s email is the only way our forum could send them to another email.

Apologies for the wrong information on the system information. You will find it under Events > Help. (Could you let me know where the Events –> Settings –> Help path was communicated to you so we can fix that? Thanks!)

On the issue at hand: I believe you cannot log in to Facebook as a “business page”, since those don’t have logins, but they are connected to users.

Try connecting Event Aggregator with your Facebook account. The go to Events > Import and in the URL field paste in the url of the Facebook business page, then hit “Preview”. (https://cloudup.com/cSXAd8C6LZ7)

Let me know if that helps you move forward.

If you keep having issues, please share with me the url of that Facebook page.

Thanks and looking forward to helping you solve this.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hi,

Thanks, I was able to log in using my own Facebook login. Then I selected the business page I manage to aggregate the feed from into the Events calendar on the wordpress site. I checked the license key and all is fine.

    Here are issues/questions still pending:

    (1) it is not syncing in real time (i.e. updates on the Facebook events are not updating in the calendar;
I did change the updates from daily to every 30 minutes… will that make a difference?
Also — it was duplicating about 5 events on the same time/day in the calendar from the feed, so I manually hid those in the calendar… (they were updates that ended in the page name “…-2″…)

    (2) I only want the Events from the business page (https://www.facebook.com/DriftlessBooks/) imported… here’s what I used for the imports url:
    https://www.facebook.com/pg/DriftlessBooks/events/
… should I instead point to this url???:
    https://www.facebook.com/DriftlessBooks/

    (3) says that Facebook sync will time out in 2 months? why does that happen, what will I need to do at that time, and change I change that setting… I’m handing this over to the site owner fully and want to ensure that this will always be automated going forward…

    (4) is it necessary to reconnect to Facebook to get the updates… shouldn’t he just happen automatically?

    (5) any other troubleshooting advice? Just want all changes made on the events page of the FB to sync correctly to the calendar…

Hi, seems like the 30 minute sync change looks like it’s now updating…
    See site calendar: http://driftlessbooks.com/events/
    See FB page events: https://www.facebook.com/pg/DriftlessBooks/events/

Looks like it did update an event title that was changed… BUT:
The FB page owner deleted an event in FB but it is still showing on the calendar:
    http://driftlessbooks.com/event/ray-bonneville-with-special-guests-tba/
    — if he deletes the event on FB, shouldn’t it then remove or hide this from the calendar on the website???

Can you also please answer my other questions from the recent previous support request (above)… thanks so much!

    Hello Edmund,

Thanks for getting back to me and I’m happy to hear you managed to start the imports. Let me help you with your other questions.

Hi, seems like the 30 minute sync change looks like it’s now updating…

Yeah, update doesn’t happen automatically right after the event is updated on Facebook. It is not a live connection between the calendar and Facebook. The import runs via a cron (like WordPress update checks) based on the import settings, and the cron needs to be triggered through a visit to the site or the admin dashboard. (So, if you set up a daily import, but nobody visits the site or the admin area for a week, then likely it is not going to update the events for a week.)

Also — it was duplicating about 5 events on the same time/day in the calendar from the feed, so I manually hid those in the calendar… (they were updates that ended in the page name “…-2″…)

This might be a bug. If this keeps happening, then please open a new thread with the issue and give us as many details as you can, so the issue can get dedicated attention and support. Thanks!

    (2) I only want the Events from the business page imported…
… should I instead point to this url???:

I believe there is no difference. I also checked and I get the same number of events in the preview with both urls.

    (3) says that Facebook sync will time out in 2 months? why does that happen, what will I need to do at that time, and change I change that setting…

This doesn’t actually depend on us. When the site is connected to Facebook, then a token is generated with a validity period. That’s basically a security measure. So when that runs out you will just need to click the button / log in to Facebook again and done.

Unfortunately nothing we can do about that on our side.

    (4) is it necessary to reconnect to Facebook to get the updates… shouldn’t he just happen automatically?

I’m not quite sure what you refer to here. If it’s the token renewal in the previous question, then yes, you need to, otherwise Facebook will not give you authorization to read the events.

    (5) any other troubleshooting advice? Just want all changes made on the events page of the FB to sync correctly to the calendar…

All your settings seem solid. That is how I would set it up for your case.

The FB page owner deleted an event in FB but it is still showing on the calendar:

Unfortunately at the moment it is not possible to remove events from the calendar if they have been removed from the source. It needs to be deleted manually from your calendar.

I hope I managed to clarify the questions above. If there is still anything you want to ask, please do so. I’d be happy to help.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hi…
The aggregator seems to be working ok but…
after a day or so the connection to the Facebook just stops working, therefore no new entries get added… until I go in again and reconnect to Facebook… then I also need to set the scheduled import time again too.

I can’t keep managing this and checking to see if the Facebook login is working…

Shouldn’t that stay activated? (i.e. also since I’m not logging out of Facebook).
FYI this is a Facebook page i admin, I’m not the owner… is that a reason this may be happening?

And if I changed to his log-in, will it stay connected?

What is this happening and how to fix it? My Client is concerned and not happy with this as the aggregator should be working properly.

I’m sharing a screen from the previous syncs too…

And… why are some noted as “ignored”? and what is the difference between “mined” and “published”?

    Please help resolve all this.

    Thanks.

    Hi Edmund,

I will do my best to help you resolve these issues.

The Facebook connection should stay active for about 2-3 weeks, until the tokes expire. Until then you shouldn’t need to log in again. I’ll check with the team if anyone has any idea of this issue.

Setting the scheduled import time again might be connected to that.

As for changing to his login, you will need to test that.

    Regarding the event statuses:

Published: all the events that currently have the published status and are visible on the frontend.

Mine: all the events that have the currently logged in user as their author

Ignored: This is a status only the imported events get. You must have noticed that you cannot actually delete an imported event. You can set it to ignored, which means that it will not show up in your calendar and it will not be (re-)imported again.

You can do 2 actions with an ignored event: Restore it so it becomes visible again, or Delete Permanently. When you delete it permanently, then it will be imported again next time the respective import is run.

    I hope this clarifies.

In your screenshots I see that the Driftless Books and Music has three different scheduled imports set up. That could cause some confusion. I would recommend deleting all three schedules and setting up only one, and check how that plays out. Also it might be worth testing it with a less frequent import schedule.

Let me know if this helps. Meanwhile I will try to find out about the Facebook logout thing.

    Cheers,
    Andras

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
