    Hello.

We’re trying to troubleshoot why our month view calendars are so slow.

Our system has 1500 total events, categories range from having 2 – 800 events each.

If we bring up the month view of a category, and view the source code, we can see events listed from other categories (they’re not on the page, just in the source).

    Is this expected behaviour?

    Thank you

    Hi there Ted,

Thanks for getting in touch with us! I’ll help you here…

If we bring up the month view of a category, and view the source code, we can see events listed from other categories (they’re not on the page, just in the source).

I don’t other events need to be queried. Can you please point me to the URL where I can see this? Please indicate which line or element I should be looking for.

    Best,
    Nico

    Hi.

If you look at this page for instance: http://torontoadventures.ca/events/category/humberboatingevents/

It display the month view for events in one category and shows about 50 events.

If you view the source of the page though, it looks like I can see at least 400 categories (I could be wrong, but searching the source for “@type”:”Event” brings up more than 400 events. Search for “horse” for instance, and you’ll see 1000+ entries. There is nothing about horses in the front end of this page.)

We don’t see the same on week view, only on month view.

    Thank you

    Simon

In the first line of the third paragraph I meant events: “If you view the source of the page though, it looks like I can see at least 400 events”

Thanks for following up Ted, and for proving the extra details on this!

I could verify your findings and this looks like a bug indeed. The json+ld output (structured data) for ‘category month view’ is indeed the same that for default ‘month view’ without any category applied.

I went ahead and created a new bug report for this, to which I attached your thread. This means we will be back to you when this is fixed and released.

For now I’ll take a look at the code (probably tomorrow) and see if there’s a temporary fix I can provide!

    Thanks once again,
    Best,
    Nico

    Hey Ted,

Sorry for the delay here, I could inspect this but forgot to give you a heads-up on the issue. It’s basically related to how the ld+JSON is generated for month view, as expected is not taking in account the category in the query to get the events to generate that information. I’ve been trying to find a quickfix for this, but it actually requires restructuring the code around this functionality.

This conversation is still attached to the bug report and you’ll get a heads-up when this is finally fixed and shipped.

    Best,
    Nico

    Any update on this?

We’ve found that the monthly calendar pages require 400 – 500MB to create, which if they’re not cached isn’t workable (takes about a minute and a half to display the page).

    Thank you

    Simon

    Hello Ted / Simon,

Sorry for the long pause in the reply. Nico is currently out and this thread went below the radar.

We are looking into the issue but at the moment unfortunately I cannot give you any fixed date when a fix will arrive for this. I ask for your further patience and thanks for your understanding.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hi Andras

This is a major issue for us and is having a significant impact on business.

Is there any way to escalate a resolution to this, paid or other? It’s likely a big contributor to the other memory/query results we’re getting: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/memories-queries-an-events

    Thank you

    Hello Ted!

I’m sorry for the delay here.

I just wanted to let you know that we haven’t been able to address this issue yet, as there have been many others which were of higher priority.

I will take notice of this to see if it can be included in our next maintenance release in about two weeks.

I apologise for this inconvenience and we’d appreciate your patience in the meantime.

    Best,
    Victor

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
