ParticipantHello, my designer set up my landing page to feature several events, however I’ve been unable to figure out how to have them display by date. Please see my landing page under “upcoming classes”. I’d like to show the 3 upcoming classes/events by date, or choose which events to feature. I’d also like users to be able to know when an event is sold out – will that appear along with the event on this page as well? Thank you.

ParticipantHey Stephanie,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
Do you happen to know how the page was set up to pull those events? Is it custom coded or is there some sort of widget or custom query being used there?
If there was a custom query done, it would be best to replace those with a “tribe_get_events” query which would allow the default ordering and display in the order that you’re wanting here.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Josh,
Thanks for getting back to me. Here’s the response from my designer:
We are not running a custom query as this would require us to create a custom template and would increase the final cost.
Right now, we are using FacetWP and would have to know how to sort by their dates using a WordPress query object.
The second option is to use the “Events List” widget which comes with the plugin. If they can update that to include an option for outputting featured images it would meet your specifications.
Please let me know if this is possible.
Thanks,

ParticipantHey Stephanie,
Thanks for following up here!
I think there might have been a little confusion on the exact spot that we were asking about there. I don’t see FacetWP running on your homepage there and that particular plugin wouldn’t generate the actual feed of the events there.
But I guess that does mean that the homepage isn’t custom coded so that does help to know. For your homepage, is this a widget area then or a setting within the theme for populating that with a feed from a custom post type?
If so, it’s possible that there could be some minor customizations to the query without making a complete custom query there for sorting the events.
I’m sorry I’m not able to give you specifics here. By default, queries of our events will always output in proper chronological order and that is how they do display for all of our views and widgets. However, there are numerous potential filters or ways that themes or plugins could pull them in their own way that could override this. It’s hard to say what a solution would be here without seeing exactly how they’re being pulled onto your homepage.
Thanks!

ParticipantHey Stephanie,
I took a closer look and it appears that the facet filters aren’t being used on the homepage but the facet template that would normally be used with the filters is being used as possibly a shortcode in a text widget?
If that’s the case, then I’m sure based on the advanced and powerful filtering used by FacetWP (I personally love that plugin) that the template would be overriding some of our query arguments for ordering the events.
As an alternative, the templates for Facet are typically added in general Php. If that is the case for your site, the current template used could be assigned to it’s own, new shortcode and then added. That way it isn’t getting run through any special setup for Facet which wouldn’t be needed on the homepage there.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
