    Hi

We have changed the settings of our site to Dutch and also imported the Dutch language files to the language file of the plugins. However some words on our site are still not translated, such as Date, Time, Cost and Venue.

We have also synced the language files, as we noticed you suggested that in another support request, however that also did not resolve the issue. What can we do to resolve this?

    Thanks!

Good evening Leonie and welcome to the Events Calendar Support forum!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We are sorry to hear about the missing translations.
I would love to help you with this topic.

The first thing I would recommend is to “refresh” your language files for the following plugins:

    1. the Events Calendar
    2. Event Tickets
    3. Event Tickets Plus

To do that, you will need access to the free Poedit software: https://poedit.net/

Here’s the procedure to repeat for each of the above plugins:

    1. Go to the plugin’s /lang/ folder
    2. Find the 2 dutch language files (po/mo) and download them on your computer
    3. Find the .pot file for that plugin and download it.
    4. Open the .pot file in Poedit. It will generate a message. Save that file.
    5. Open the .po file in Poedit and click on the Catalog menu.
    6. Choose the Update from pot file option
    7. Save the .po file after the update
    8. Reupload the po and mo files to your site’s /lang/ folder for that plugin
    9. Repeat for each plugin

If that still does not work, could you provide me with specific examples (URLs) on your website so that I can run some tests ?

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Hi Geoff,

    Thanks for your reply.
I followed these steps for all three plugins, but that did not solve the issue unfortunately.

You can see the example on our homepage: http://www.foodx.nl/
At the highlighted event below, you can see that it still states Date, Time, Cost and Venue instead of the Dutch translations.
If you can run some tests as you proposed, that would be great.

    Thank you!

    Bests,
    Leonie

    Good evening Leonie,

    Thank you for writing back.
I am sorry to hear that updating the language files did not cut it.

The next investigation step would be to look at your theme or child theme and look for the template overrides.

You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.

Basically, it is very likely these specific strings are encoded in the template used by Eventica.

Could you please send me a copy of your WordPress theme / child theme in a .zip file link (via Dropbox or Google Drive) so that I can run some tests on my end ?

Please ensure you are using the latest files as found on your actual website.
This way I will get access to any updates you might have made.

    Have a good week-end,

    Geoff B.

    Good evening Leonie,

Unfortunately, it looks like the link to your theme is broken. I just cannot seem to open the zip file.

But, the good news is, that I have a copy of Eventica on my install.

I can’t confirm that the issue is that these strings are hard coded in the theme instead of using translatable strings.
The other possibility, is that theme is trying to use the language files from the theme instead of using the plug-in’s translatable strings.

You can find that code in the following file: wp-content/themes/eventica-wp/tribe-events/modules/meta/details.php around line 70.

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Hi Geoff,

I found the file that you mentioned, but what should I do with it then? I can’t open the .php file.
I’m not so technical I’m afraid, so if you could tell me step by step what to do, that would be great 🙂

Thanks & have a great day as well,
    Leonie

    Good afternoon Leonie,

You have a couple of options with that file (depending on what you feel comfortable with):

    1. You can send me a copy of that specific file (make sure you compress it in a .zip file first) so that I can edit it
    2. You can simply replace the untranslated strings by the words of your choice in Dutch.

Without seeing the exact content of your version of that file, that is the best I can do for now.

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

    Good afternoon Leonie,

    Thank you for the file.

Here is an updated version to put back in the appropriate folder. Normally that should work. details
Let me know if that is not the case.

    Have a good week-end,

    Geoff B.

    Hi Geoff,

    Thank you so much!
There is definitely an improvement, as several words are now indeed translated to Dutch, so that is great!

Unfortunately there are still some words in English, as seen on the attached screenshots. Is there some way we could still fix this?

    Thanks again,
    Leonie

    Good evening Leonie,

I am glad we are making progress on this. The short answer is yes, you can totally fix this.

The solution is to replace the string “tokopress” by “the-events-calendar” in the template customization files of your theme (the files contained in the /tribe-events/ folder). This is what I did for the details.php file.

I could help you with that, but I would need access to your complete theme files.

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

    Hello Leonie,

I can see the files and even download them. But for some reason, I am unable to unzip your folder (I am getting error messages doing so).

Could you try to just extract the “tribe-events” folder from your Eventica theme and simply putting these files in a .zip directly on this site.

In the meantime, here is a fully updated details.php: Leonie

That should fix a few other translations that were missing.
As a side note, another approach would be to update the language files of the theme itself (which contains the Events Calendar strings in Eventica)

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.
