ParticipantAll attempts to update The Events Calendar since January 2017 have caused the month/grid view tooltip to break for password protected events. I was asked to troubleshoot and resolve the problem. I created a duplicate of the site in a subdirectory and used Interconnect IT’s newest search and replace script to update the URLs. I activated the Twenty Fourteen parent theme and deactivated all plugins with the exception of The Event Calendar. The latest working version of TEC installed in the dashboard was v4.3.4.2. All updates beginning with v4.4.0.1 have caused the event tooltip for grid/month view to stop working for any password protected events with a featured image. The tooltip works fine for events that are not password protected, and it also works for protected events that do not have a featured image selected.
I have been actively clearing my browser’s cache throughout this testing AND generating new salts for the config file to ensure caching isn’t part of the issue. I have also tried removing and resetting the featured image for events; with no effect. The only way to enable tooltips for protected events is to remove the featured image; but this isn’t a viable solution.
There are a bunch of other update related issues, but I’m trying to nail this down first. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

ParticipantThis is an addendum to my request for help earlier today. I forgot to mention that when viewing the calendar in month/grid view and using the Firebug JavaScript console in Firefox, hovering over protected event cells in the calendar triggers this error: “Uncaught exception: imageTooltipSrc is null”

MemberPK, thanks for your detailed report.
Here’s a screenshot of the console error I was able to reproduce for Password-Protected events (but not Private events): https://cl.ly/0J2Q44273i00
I’ll mark this ticket as Pending Fix, which means this thread should receive a reply once the applicable fix has been released. I cannot guarantee when it will be fixed as it’s in the development team’s hands now. They need to assign it, code it, test it, and schedule it for release.
I apologize for this issue and appreciate your understanding and patience.

ParticipantHi Cliff,
Thanks for looking into this.
So in essence, this is a bug, correct?
And since you are not proposing a temporary patch, if I want full tooltip functionality, I need to hold off on processing updates until a fix has been implemented. Is that accurate?

MemberYou are correct that this is now a logged bug internally. However, just because this bug exists in the latest version doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still update because it may be months before a fix is released (we do not provide ETAs).
Also, other bugs were fixed from the version you’re on to the current version.
I apologize for this bug existing in the code, but we always recommend using the latest released version.
Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions on this topic prior to an update post about this fix being released.
