ParticipantGreetings,
I updated the Events Calendar, Pro, and Filter to the latest versions yesterday. Immediately after that I also updated my website theme to the latest version as well. I’m using the popular X Theme on my site.
When I went to my events page on my website after the two updates I saw this abomination – mymasjid.ca/events
I don’t know how to describe it in words. The display looks horrible. All of the elements are out of place and everything is way too spaced out. It’s best you take a look for yourself.I tried changing the calendar display in the plugin settings from Tribe Events Styles to Full Styles to Skeleton Styles but it made no difference.
I tried to clear the cache on my caching plugin but that didn’t help either. I also considered deactivating and reactiviating the Calendar plugins, but I wan’t sure if that would fix the problem or make it worse.
What’s really strange about this problem is that only the main events page has display issues (mymasjid.ca/events), but all of the individual event posts are completely fine.
Do you know what caused this issue and what can be done to fix it?
Thanks! Your help is greatly appreciated.

MemberGood evening Ismail and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear about the nasty display issue you are dealing with.
We will gladly try to assist you on this topic. At first glance, it looks like the wpautop filter from WordPress is kicking in and adding a bunch of
<p>tags on your main event page 🙁It’s less than ideal, but could you try the following suggestion and see if that makes a difference ?
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

ParticipantHey Geoff,
Thanks for the quick reply.
To be quite honest with you I’ve never had to edit, change, or write a single line of PHP code. I have never touched anything related to PHP since creating this website when I built it all on my own a year ago.
I’ve been able to solve all of my past tech problems with my website through plugins, built-in WordPress settings, or simple CSS tweaks (and I’m proud of it as a non-programmer).
So when I looked into your suggestion I was bewildered. Is there any other way to solve this wpautop problem without messing around with PHP? If there is a CSS solution then I can do it myself.
If not, will this be addressed in a future update to the calendar plugin? I’ve noticed a couple people in the forums had similar issues with the recent updates.

MemberGood afternoon Ismail,
Thank you for your very honest answer.
I am sorry if my answer was scary, I certainly did not mean to make it complicated.I guess I was probably overly focused on finding an immediate solution for you. My apologies.
To put this into context, you are absolutely right. We always favour simple solutions that do not require any coding. Furthermore, we try our best at making every possible change to our programming compatible with as many WordPress themes as possible.
Alas, as hard as we try, sometimes we fall a bit short on that last part for reasons outside of our control.
As you pointed out, this issue is unfortunately impacting several of our users. But not all of them (depending on the WordPress theme they are using).
The good news is that one of our wonderful customers has identified the cause:
As such, a bug ticket has been opened and you will be notified as soon as we have a fix for it.
We do apologize for any inconvenience this is causing. In the meantime, the workarounds are as follows:
- Follow my initial suggestion (which will work)
- Adding some CSS rules to diminish the impact of this issue (as suggested in the same post as above)
- Reverting back to the earlier version of the plugin
I wish I had a better answer for you, but for now it’s the best one I have 🙁
Let me know if you need help with any of these.
Have a great day!
Geoff B.

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Once again thanks for offering to help!
I tried to add some CSS rules as outlined in the post but it didn’t work as I hoped. Since a bug ticket has been opened I’ll just wait until it gets resolved.
It is an inconvenience but it isn’t the end of the world. I’ll probably just switch the default calendar view from List view to the Month view until the problem is fixed.
No big worries for now 🙂
Thanks again for the help. It would be greatly appreciated if you could notify me when the bug is resolved.
Thanks boss.

Thank you for your understanding.
The good news is that we are currently working on a snippet to fix this (prior to a maintenance release).
So stay tuned!Have a great day!

ParticipantGood morning Geoff,
Once again I’d like to thank you and your team for taking the time to solve my issue. I greatly appreciate it.
I followed your recommendation and uploaded the plugin from Github.
As soon as I did that this strange problem occurred on the main events page – http://imgur.com/aDeK7y1
I switched from the LIST view to the MONTH view and it was the same wpautop problem as before – http://imgur.com/G2ZcqBC
Furthermore, all of the event posts stopped working immediately after I installed the plugin. Whenever I clicked on an event listing this is what happened:
“Gateway Time-out. The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.”
Because of that I was forced to deactivate the plugin you sent me from GitHub. Now my main events page (mymasjid.ca/events) is back to its original form with the weird wpautop spacing issue.
Things didn’t work out as nicely as we hoped.
But I’m confident it will be fixed soon 🙂
Let me know if you can figure out a fix for this issue.
Thanks boss.
Best regards,

MemberHello again Ismail,
Oh wow! So sorry about that 🙁
As you know, our goal was quite the opposite.I believe my colleague Brian has finally nailed it. Check it out: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/problem-after-update-plugin-event-calendar-2?replies=4#post-8068853
Let me know if that produces better results,

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Once again I’d like to thank you for helping me out. Most companies would have given up on a customer at this point but you guys haven’t.
That’s why I like your support team so much 🙂
I took a look at the solution and as soon as I saw that it involved editing PHP, no matter how simple the change may have been, I decided not to give it a try.
I made it a point to our website team at our organization to never edit website files like that in case things go horribly wrong (and it has in the past).
I know this isn’t the outcome you were looking for.
For the time being I will switch my main calendar view from List to Month. view. The spacing issue is not apparent with the monthly view so our visitors won’t realize something is wrong.
Fingers crossed that the next plugin update for the calendar will magically make the wpautop issue disappear.
Thanks again Geoff.

MemberHey Ismail,
Thank you for the kind words.
I can totally understand where you are coming from with your strict policy to not edit php files and I can absolutely respect that.
That being said, in this specific case, provided you made a backup of the file in question (provided what the function of that file is AND the fact that this solution comes from one of our very top Developers), the risk is minimal.
Unfortunately, this is the only patch we can offer until a maintenance release (with this patch) is issued.
I’m glad that you have a workaround solution in the meantime.Thank you once again for your understanding and we will contact you as soon as the new release is available.
Best regards,
Geoff B.
