    Hello,

After I upload venues or events from an Excel CSV file, the calendar will automatically distort certain characters (quotes, accents, etc.) to something unintended. E.g. The Pelican’s Restaurant becomes The Pelican$s Restaurant. Is there a setting either in WordPress or Excel I can use to stop WordPress from making these changes automatically?

    Thanks.

    Hi Alyssa,

Oh geez, I hate it when that happens! I’ve actually worked on a few clients sites where that has happened and it’s super annoying.

In most cases I’ve seen, the problem is either that:

    • The apostrophe is typed out in HTML (e.g. ’) in the spreadsheet being uploaded, or
    • The apostrophe is a curly one (’) instead of a standard one (‘)

Will you please try replacing the apostrophe with a standard version to see if that makes a difference? I’m hoping that does the trick.

    Thanks!
    Geoff

Thanks, Geoff. I’ll give that a try on our next import.

Excellent! Definitely keep me posted — I’ll be interested to see if that’s the culprit. I checked in with a few others here on the team and we’re all hoping the same. 🙂

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
