I am currently attempting to do some customization to the mobile version of our website. We are currently using Elegant Themes “Webly” Theme for desktop and “HandHeld” (http://www.elegantthemes.com/gallery/handheld/) for mobile. HandHeld is a plugin rather than a theme and I can’t figure out how to add support/theming for events using this. I attempted to follow the template override method for customizing them but it is clear that it won’t work out of the box. Currently in the mobile view it lists all the events (not pretty but they are there ordered by date added) clicking on individual events, however, brings up a blank post. Any suggestions on where to get started with this (unfortunately HandHeld isn’t well documented).

I wasn’t even aware of HandHeld before reading your post, in all honesty. Am I right in understanding this basically to be a problem only in terms of integrating the two (ie, integrating HandHeld with The Events Calendar/PRO)?

OK so I yesterday as I was messing around I realized Wp-Touch (free) recently got updated so I tried using that plugin to see how it behaves. What is interesting is that it has a section for supporting custom post types. You have to go into the options and select TEC3’s different post types that you want WPTouch to support. Doing this worked (although I hadn’t done any styling so it only shows the title and description).

That is to say that apparently there must be some coding done on the part of the ET Handheld crew to add support for custom post types. As I am not familiar with integrating custom post types I am a fish out of water now and I don’t see this as a problem on the TEC3 side of things. Is support of Custom Post Types for a plugin like this a difficult thing?

It’s hard for me to answer that not knowing quit what is happening deep, or even at any level, within HandHeld – but ultimately I can’t think of any particular reasons why our use of custom post types would be an impediment.

Just a final update. I got this response from ET regarding support of Custom Post Types:

“This is not a feature of the plugin. Sorry about that. We will not be updating the plugin to handle custom post types.”

I will probably switch back to WPTouch as it has full support and is now being updated again.

Excellent, thanks for the update – sounds like you’ve got a plan to move forward, then – I’ll go ahead and close this thread.
