    Hi,
I am setting up the latest Pro version after a reinstall (rather than an upgrade – long story) of a dev site. The issue we have is that the calendar is not showing up in the template. It used to work under the previous version. Is there something I am missing here? We use Ultimatum as the template framework.

    Hi Jahnu,

I’m not familiar with Ultimatum – but have you tried changing the default template in Events > Settings > Display – does that make any difference here?

    Hi Barry,
Yes, and yes. All works fine with the default, however I can’t for the life of me get it to work with the template. The old version did. (Ultimatum is not actually a template, but a template framework.)

So all works well with the Default Events Template do you mean? And essentially the problem is that the events pages do not ‘look and feel’ like the rest of the site?

OK, so it may be that you can override and customize our default-template.php template (see the Themer’s Guide for details on how to do this) and tweak it so it meshes more smoothly with your theme’s modular design.

As is, it is pretty simple and if you are familiar with your theme framework you will probably be in the best position to add whatever is needed there 🙂

Jahnu, did Barry’s last note point you in the right direction? Can this thread be closed?

Hi Rob, we lost internet for a week, so haven’t had a chance to look at this yet. Go ahead and close as any further questions will probably on other issues.

Hi jahnu: so I’m a little confused – previously you had suggested everything was functional (even if not visually a close fit) when using the default events template … is that no longer the case/was that inaccurate, or is the problem taking the default template and making it integrate in a visually attractive way with the rest of your theme?

    Thanks!

Hi Barry. The calendar worked under the default template and still does. It’s about the integration.

OK – thanks for clarifying 🙂

So on visiting your main events page I can see the calendar and see that you are also running the Ultimatum theme … it does look slightly out of synch with the front page however I can’t seem to find many other pages to compare it to.

However, this is really going to come back to the advice I offered a few posts back: I think though what you’re going to have to do is override our default-template.php template and customize from there. Essentially that means locating:

    wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/views/default-template.php

Copying it and placing the copy in this location (you may need to change this path slightly and will also need to create the tribe-events subdirectory, if you haven’t already done so):

    wp-content/themes/ultimatum/tribe-events/default-template.php

Then you’ll have a copy of the template that you can safely customize. From there on though there isn’t a great deal of further support we can offer, given you are using a theme framework we are unfamiliar with.

Slightly out of sync?? How about completely unlike anything else on the site? Did you look at the calendar, or just the events listing on the front page (which is fine and not the issue)? If you could look at the calendar itself http://shaktidurga.com/events/ or any of the single events and let me know if there is anything that jumps out at you please. If there is nothing obvious I will need to look at options for moving forward. Thanks!

Jahnu, visiting your site this morning the difference is stark and obvious: previously however, when I looked at this a few weeks back, that wasn’t actually the case. I don’t know if that was due to a hosting problem, or a stylesheet that wasn’t visible to me because it lived on a localhost or something of that order, but the front page certainly did not appear to have as much style and finesse as it currently does. In any event I’m sorry for the resulting confusion, however it may have arisen.

At this point let’s roll back a step or two because I think you may have misunderstood one of my earlier suggestions.

I asked you if you had tried changing the default template via the Events → Settings → Display admin screen and you said that you had – and that is works perfectly with the default. I’m worried that you misinterpreted this and simply changed the theme to a default theme like Twenty Twelve.

That’s not what I meant and at that point I was not suggesting you change the theme (though that’s a great troubleshooting step in itself – thanks for trying it 🙂 ).

So, if you haven’t already done so can you now try logging in to the dashboard and then navigate to the Events → Settings → Display admin screen and change the default template setting on that screen? You might need to try a few different options, often though just toggling between the Default Events Template and the Default Page Template is worthwhile.

    Thanks!

    Hi Barry,
Ok yeah, had misinterpreted. So, if I change the Display to the “Default Events Template” I get what looks basically like a reasonably unformatted calendar with none of my template settings . If I change to the “Default Page Template” I get the single events well formatted, but the calendar will only show as a list, and not in month view which is what I need.
