ParticipantIt might be because I’m trying to fix something at work instead of home (different ftp programs) but I cannot for the life of me find where the events are! I’m having an issue with recurring events- I have a lot of them and they like to show up multiple times on the same day. I want to remove them all but going through the dashboard I get a 505 error so I wanted to just yank them from the back end but, like I said, I can’t find them.

MemberHi, I’m sorry you’re experiencing difficulties.
You won’t be able to delete events via FTP, I’m afraid. Just like pages and posts, events live in the database rather than each being represented by an individual file.
Can you confirm where you are seeing the 505 error? Is it only on event-related admin pages, or is it across the entire admin environment?

ParticipantOh, bummer.
I get the 505 when I try to edit recurring events (just recurring ones). It’s a bit of a problem because they are totally clogging up my calendar due to some glitch with the calendar that balks at the number of recurring events I have. So I can’t fix the problem because I can’t edit or delete the events.August 13, 2014 at 11:09 am #659485Barry
MemberIs it just when you edit them? If so, can you trash them / select a number of them and do a bulk delete?

ParticipantIf I try to remove the recurring events I get an “error moving to trash” message. And I have over 400 pages of recurring events so it’s a pretty big job deleting all of them.

MemberHmm.
If you want to purge all events and don’t also mind losing all of your events settings it could be worth installing Event Rocket.
I have to note first of all this isn’t an official Modern Tribe plugin and we don’t support it here but, if you activate Event Rocket and deactivate The Events Calendar it will add an “Events Cleanup” entry under the “Tools” menu – and this may provide an easier way to work through the problem.
Does that help here?

ParticipantI’ll give it a try. I only need to get rid of the recurring events which have decided to spawn and clog things up but with luck this will work.

MemberOK – unfortunately it’s tooled to dispose of all events data rather than just recurring events – but if that’s not an insurmountable problem it will hopefully get you where you need to be 🙂
