I have the same issue than Austin. Actually it’s possible to click on the Drop-Down menu, and to enter a text, yet the text will only be displayed when I press enter. Then the form fields for the venue or organizer are shown. But I am not able to edit the venue/organizer name, and for a non-tech user, this is not usable.

As my community events page is password protected, I would like to reference Austin’s page as mine is looking just the same: http://www.wdac.com/community-calendar/community/add

Just activated “Twenty Sixteen” and the problem is gone.
Could you give me a hint where to start looking for the cause? I am on “Customizr” and the community page worked until I upgraded to version Eventscalendar 4.4

Good afternoon Bettina and welcome to the Events Calendar Support forum!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We are sorry to hear that it’s no longer possible to select venues or organizers after the latest upgrade. I would love to help you with this topic.

There are a couple of things I would recommend to try to get things working with your setup:

    1. I notice that you are using an older version of PHP. I strongly advise getting at least PHP 5.4+ in there, as many features of WordPress related plugins are not that great otherwise.
    2. Your max PHP execution time is set to 0. Try increasing it to 300

Secondly, I am not sure if you have any template customization in your child theme (/tribe-events/ folder). But if you do, they might need updating. Try disabling them temporarily to see if that helps or better, simply revert to the parent Customizr theme.

Ideally all these tests would be better performed in a test / staging environment.

To buy you some time, you might want to downgrade Community Events to 4.3.2 : https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/downgrading-plugin-past-version/

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Hello Geoff,

and thanks a lot for your help.
I updated the PHP version to 7 and by this, my provider set the max execution time to 120. As I am only the administrator of the wordpress environment, but not the full admin of the server, I am not so easily able to set it to 300.

The problem is still the same. The workaround I found was using a plugin that allows using multiple themes on one WP instance. I activated Twentyseventeen for the Community pages and that works very well. Luckily I don’t need to have the same UI on this page, as on others.

In case you have another idea on how to help me in this case, I’d be very happy,

    Thanks a lot,
    Bettina

    Good evening Bettina,

    Thank you for your answer.

I am glad to hear you found a workaround!
A max execution time of 120 is great for now.

Based on what you are telling me, this means that there is an issue with either your theme or child theme.

Could you please send me a copy of the latest version of your WordPress theme / child theme via a link to a .zip file link (stored Dropbox or Google Drive) so that I can run some tests on my end ? I recommend a private reply for that purpose.

Please ensure you are using the latest files as found on your actual website.
This way I will get access to any updates or customizations you might have made.

    Hang in there!

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
