    Hi,

I ran a few of my events through the Google Structured Data Testing Tool. I get 2 errors for each url (for example – https://physiocourse.com/event/example-course/) under the hcalendar section – screenshot. This appears to be important to generate rich snippets and add to the ‘knowledge graph’ – from what I have read 🙂

I’m concerned this will negatively effect my performance in search. I ran a site: search for that venue I used in the example above and didn’t get any rich snippets – screenshot. I was expecting the venue as the top result with the events as part of the rich snippet like in this example google gives – screenshot.

Is there a reason I am getting those 2 errors under the hcalendar section?

    Thanks,
    Mat

    Hi,

Sorry for the issues you are having. I can help troubleshoot this with you.

I tested some links from our demo site with the Structure Data Testing Tool and not getting any of those errors:

Do you have any custom templates in your theme that change the output of the events?

We did make some changes with the latest release to prevent some of these errors.

    The templates would be here:

    yourtheme/tribe-events/

And from looking at your site, there are most likely customizations there that are causing this. If you would like to resolve the errors you would want to compare your theme’s templates to the ones in the plugin and update them accordingly.

    Our templates are located here:

    plugins/the-events-calendar/src/views/

    plugins/events-calendar-pro/src/views/pro/

Here is our demo site for reference:

Let me know what you find out.

    Thanks

    Hi Brian,

The only customizations I have applied to the events are some styling changes in a plugin. I get the same errors with this plugin deactivated. I have also tried deactivating all other plugins and reverting to twenty thirteen, when I run the structured data testing tool I still get the hcalendar errors.

The reason you are not seeing any errors is that the structured data testing tool is not displaying any hcalendar information for events from your demo site. This is also the case for a couple of websites from your ‘showcase’ section. You can see this if you run them through the tool:

    No hcalendar:

    1. From your demo site – https://developers.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/

    2. From one of your showcase websites – http://www.sippingnpaintinghighland.com/event/mimosa-morning-pink-orchids-sat-feb-13th-11am-40/

    3. From one of your showcase websites – http://www.santacruzmah.org/event/lightning-talks-mysteries/

One of my events pages. This gets hcalendar errors:
    https://physiocourse.com/event/lower-back-level-1-oatley/

Why do I see hcalendar info and your demo and the other sites do not?

    Thanks,
    Mat

These guys (from your showcase) do get hcalendar info but no errors:

    Hi,

So in 4.0 we changed how we did structured data for the single events and the widgets.

For the widgets we removed the hcalendar and for single events we went to JSON-LD format.

So for some of the links they may have customizations and some may be using older versions.

I tested on my test site with the base plugin, no customizations, in Genesis theme, and get no structured data warnings.

On your site it maybe caused because the venue information is outside the hentry wrap and in the sidebar instead.

I also do not see the JSON-LD information for the latest version.

Both that and because there is a sidebar, which we do not include in our plugin, means there is some kind of custom functions maybe from the parent theme or a plugin causing this issue.

Beyond that I have been unable to find an issue with our default settings.
