    Hey support team,

Iยดm Hans from this post here https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/found-illegal-copy-of-your-plugin/ and i opened a new topic, because i found something interesting. I was searching for a wordpress freelancer at odesk and was looking what skills the freelancer have. And by one of them i found this: https://www.odesk.com/o/jobs/job/Renaming-and-white-labeling-plugin-event-calendar_~018f9c74a75a79f165/

The job description says: “It shall look like, its our tool we developed.” (!!!)

So, the company really stole your work and your plugin. Hope the information helped to take these mother…er by the scruff of the neck.

    Kind regards
    Hans

    Hey Hans,

Damn, in some ways it’s flattering to see so many people stealing your code, but that’s obviously a fleeting emotion as their bad intentions and dishonesty start to sink in ๐Ÿ™

I’m sure if you trawled around the Web for people doing similar things, you’d find dozens, hundreds, likely even thousands of people “stealing” Modern Tribe’s product code for purposes like this…

…However, I put “stealing” in quotes because, while these people are almost certainly being unethical or, at best, dishonest and bad at writing code, the GPL license which our code is licensed under is quite accommodating and affords many, many liberties to anyone who gets their hands on our code.

So there’s very little we can actually do about people like you report here. Worrying about each case is more or less futile.

Now, that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate you reporting this stuff to us. Seriously: thank you! Thanks for being concerned about it at all.

I hope you check your email soon for a little email from our team here ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for reporting this stuff Hans!

    Hi George and Hans,

Good for you Hans for reporting your find. I also have come across a number of people, let’s say from the sub-continent who have advertised a plugin which when you look at the code is obviously the “tribe-event-calendar”. They were pretty sloppy because they left all the commented wording in the code.

But like George said, it would be pretty hard to prosecute these people and even if you got rid of one, there would be a 100 more to take their place. It’s a sad world when people have to rub others of their hard work.

The original Events Calendar will always be supported by me!

Thanks for your input here James, and for supporting the original (and true) brand of ours.

Impostors pop up frequently, and the GPL license makes stopping them manually difficult to do, so the best we can do is mostly just keep our heads down and keep making better stuff than all of them ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers!
