ParticipantYour last two updates have been so so terrible! I can’t believe I have to spend another Sunday fixing the problems caused by this plugin.
Here’s a list:
Sidebar no longer shows upcoming events
Hidden events show in calender
Calender starts in May instead of June
Events show in calender but have disappeared from admin sectionJune 2, 2014 at 10:20 am #198866Brook
ParticipantHowdy britlander,
I am very sorry. We definitely felt like last release had more bugs than usual. It was a very huge and fundamental rewrite of some aspects of our plugin. These always cause bugs. While we spent countless hours testing and fixing many bugs before the release, it was sad to see a few rather large impact bugs slip through. Hence our 3.5.x hotfixes.
This release however has been very smooth so far. Few bugs have been reported. While we do have a 3.6 hotfix in the works, it is nowhere near as large as 3.5.x. I hope we can get things sorted for you.
Sidebar no longer shows upcoming events
This is indeed a bug. It should have an easy fix though that you can do right now. Simply delete the widget, save the sidebar, then add the widget back. That should fix it, it has so far for everyone else.
Hidden events show in calender
I am able to reproduce that in both Month and Day views. š I am sorry that is a new bug to us. I just talked to my manager and see if we can get it the highest priority for being fixed. He already has a developer looking into it. Thank you so much for reporting this.
Calender starts in May instead of June
I am unable to reproduce this issue. Are you still seeing that? Perhaps your server time is different than your local time by a few hours, so it was still in May while you were in June during your tests. If that is now it, what view do you have set as your default view?
Events show in calender but have disappeared from admin section
I am unable to reproduce this as well. D you perhaps have some filters set in the admin to filter out certain events (using the filter bar at the top of the edit events/admin-events-list page)?
Thanks again for the bug reports. I am truly sorry they are such a pain for you. I hope my fix for the first on helps, and maybe we can get that second one fixed with our hotfix. That is up to the powers that be, not me.
I hope we can nail down the second two issues. Please let me know if you have any questions! I am happy to assist.

ParticipantThank you for the detailed answers Brook, here’s what worked and what didn’t.
Fixed:
– Events show in calender but have disappeared from admin section.
– Calender starts in May instead of June, sort of fixed tried it in chrome showed correct month. Shows wrong month in Firefox regular, but right month in Firefox private browsing (so I’m going to say that’s a caching issue).Still broke:
– Sidebar no longer shows upcoming events. Maybe I’m just lucky, but deleting the widget and adding it back didn’t fix it for me.
– Hidden events show in calender.June 3, 2014 at 7:01 am #201040Brook
ParticipantHowdy britlander,
I am glad those two issues are fixed! That is very good news.
Hidden events show in calender.
We just found a fix for this issue and will pushing that fix out very very soon. Just hold on, and this problem will fix itself next time you update.
Ā Sidebar no longer shows upcoming events. Maybe Iām just lucky, but deleting the widget and adding it back didnāt fix it for me.
I am sad that this is still a problem. Would you mind trying it again, only this time delete all Events Calendar widgets from your all of your sidebars, including the footer area if you have and including widgets like the countdown timer, upcoming, and mini calendar. Add a text widget with the following text “Tribe test”, and press save. View your site, and make sure the widgets are gone and the new one appears. Then, try readding The Events Calendar widgets. Is the problem fixed now? So far you are the only user I have seen that was not able to fix this by deleting/readding. I guess you really are lucky. Hopefully these new steps will make sure that WordPress updates the Database properly.
Please let me know the result. Thanks for bringing the hidden events bug to our attention. You were the first one to notice it.

ParticipantThanks for the detailed feedback Brook it helped me figure it out. Seeing as I was the only one still having an issues with the upcoming events widget it had to be something that I did, and it was.
I had customized the upcoming events widget to display a thumbnail with the events (which is something I think should be added to the widget as a standard option), so the old code for the widget was in my custom theme overriding the updates in the plugin folder. Hope this helps if you come across this issue again.
Also, I’ve customized a lot of the event files in my theme like the upcoming events widget, do I need to update all of them after every update?

ParticipantThanks for the update Brit. That is good to know. I actually come across a few others with the same issue after we talked yesterday, so I can use the extra information you provided and maybe that will assist them as well.
We certainly encourage customizations. Generally speaking most folks do not need to perform modifications to their customizations with each update. However, obviously at times the API changes and that necessitates you making changes. To help address that we have started publicizing such changes each update, in our release notes section. The 3.6 one isĀ changes you should be made aware of in 3.6.Ā Do you think that series of articles will help you in the future?
You are clearly frustrated with your Events Calendar experience the past couple of releases. That does not sit well with me nor our team. Our goal really is to make the best Events plugin we can. To that end, user feedback is especially important. What do you think we can do better? Perehaps, should we look into changing our version numbering system so that most changes to the API only happen in major versions? Can we improve our API in some ways that you have found? Please let me know if you have thoughts on this.

MemberHi there,
I just wanted to drop in and update you on the status of this issue. We are working on a fix, but we were not able to include it in our upcoming release (3.7). Correcting this problem is still important to us and we hope to have a fix done for a future maintenance release. We will do our best to keep you updated here on our progress. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work on this.
Best,
Leah -
