Hi, I’ve been struggling with this since I bought the plugin. If I can’t get this to work, I won’t be able to use this plugin. I wish there was an easy way in a settings that would allow the user to choose to show a sidebar on the event details pages but not not the main calendar (i.e. month view).
I had posted my question, but you just closed the topic: http://69.89.31.209/~banafshe/calendar/dance-of-oneness-divine-feminine-in-persian-dance-flamenco/

I tried what Barry suggested, and it didn’t work. I even provided the login info to the site, but you were not able to resolve this.

I ended up getting the sidebar on the details pages by choosing the default template and not the calendar template, and manually assign a side bar to it. However, I’m not able to remove it from the calendar page. Also, the page doesn’t have an id number so I can change the width in CSS.

    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi shimatorabi,

I do appreciate your frustration but this is, essentially, a customization issue and there is a real limit to how much help we can provide there: there are a great many themes and theme frameworks out there and realistically we can’t be proficient in all of them.

I ended up getting the sidebar on the details pages by choosing the default template and not the calendar template, and manually assign a side bar to it.

Can you locate the code in this template responsible for displaying the sidebar and share it via Pastebin or Gist? Combining this with the code I suggested here is one probably path towards a solution.

That said, I do realize you stated in the previous thread that you are not comfortable working with code. That being the case – and if you don’t feel you’d be able to locate the theme code that displays the sidebar – would you alternatively like a list of freelancers that you could contact for further assistance?

    Hi Barry,
I don’t have to use the theme template for the calendar. I have the option of using the default event template in the calendar setting. I don’t necessarily have to use the theme default template.
Would it be easier if you just tell me how to modify your files to accomplish this?
This should not be as complicated as it is.

Hi Shimatorabi – I’ve already tried to give you some generic code that should work within our default events template and with most themes which I posted over here – you could add that code to the default events template, positioning it wherever makes sense in the context of your site.

We’ve also got various learning resources that can help you to learn the basics of customizing our templates, such as our Themer’s Guide and I’d definitely recommend that as a good place to start.

That covers in far more detail than I can do here the ins and outs of the process. Thanks!

    Hi Barry,
Thanks for the info, but everytime you give me a code, you say that it needs to be tweeked. I’m not worried about the styling to make it look better. That part I can do. However, I tried everyting you mentioned so far, and I’m not able to get a specific sidebar that is for the events pages to show up on the details pages and not the month view. I’m ok with using any of the templates, either the events one or the one that came with the theme. This is too complicated. Can I please give you my credentials so you can look into this?
I was using all-in-one calendar, and everything was perfect. Then I switched to yours since I was told this was possible, and now it’s been over a month that I’m trying to resolve this. I would appreciate if you can please help me resolve this. Otherwise, I will need to cancel this and go back to what I had which actually worked.

Sorry Shimatorabi, I don’t mean to confuse you by suggesting everything must be tweaked to make it work – rather I mean it may have to be tweaked to gel with your theme (it may not).

OK – so can you share what you tried already in terms of customizing your default events template (via a service like Pastebin or Gist rather than posting directly in the forum)?

    Thanks!

the code you gave me was for the default template and not the default events template since you asked me to modify the page.php. I don’t know what page to modify to add the single line code you gave me for the default events template.

I just looked at event-defaults.php and did a search for “sidebar” but there was nothing on that page that I could modify and change to the code you gave me.

So the first snippet I suggested was a fairly generic example that could have been used in either template – what I went on to do was illustrate an example using the Default Page Template for the Twenty Thirteen theme. Sorry that wasn’t clearer.

I just looked at event-defaults.php and did a search for “sidebar” but there was nothing on that page that I could modify and change to the code you gave me.

That particular template is not one that you should customize (nor, generally speaking, should you try to modify any templates inside the admin-views directory). There is a great overview of theming and customizing templates in the form of our Themer’s Guide which talks through which templates you need to modify.

My feeling though is that you’re really going to need a higher level of support to accomplish what you want here than we can offer. We do have a referral list we can provide if you want to work directly with a developer?

well, this is something i needed to do from first day, and they told me that with the premium account someone can help me. now, you want to give me a list of developers. i would have used the free version if i knew that this was the kind of support i was getting. i asked a few times if i could share my credentials for you to look at it too. this makes me very upset. i’m not asking for help customizing anything that relates to the theme. it’s just a simple request and you have been giving me run arounds. how can i go about requesting someone else to get assigned to this ticket or get a refund?

Hi there shimatorabi. Thanks for the follow-up here; Barry informed me of your troubles and I wanted to reach out personally to check in on this and try and get things sorted for you. Let me apologize for the poor experience you’ve had so far. We work hard to build great products and to make our customers happy. It sincerely pains us all when we are unable to provide adequate support.

Unfortunately, it appears that your needs exceed our capacity. We cannot build people’s sites or customizations for them; what we can do is try to point people in the right direction and empower them to make changes/customizations themselves (or provide a list of names of folks they can hire to do so). I see in this thread on a number of occasions Barry has done his best to do just that. I wish there was more we could do but the truth be told, we’re all quite busy and can’t afford to offer the level of support that you are looking for.

Ultimately it sounds like your needs are outside the scope of what we can help with. To that end, I suggest we offer you a refund and allow you to take your business to a plugin shop that can better serve you. Would you mind forwarding your receipt to pro (a) tri.be so we can get that processed for you?
