There is a thread below with the same question as me. The solution is creating a customised view, I don’t follow exactly what that means.

Can I use the permalink to achieve what I am after? Such as the example format below?

I’d be happy if all instances of ‘All Events’ etc linked back to this address rather than the standard which is…

Yes, the person in that particular thread was hoping to create a highly customized view that included a specific date range.
What you note as far as using the URL from the search filter is perfect for displaying a events. That certainly works!
If you are looking for something more than that, then it would require setting up a new page template in your theme and setting up a new post query using our tribe_get_events() function as the foundation. This article provides some nice examples of how to do that, including limiting the return to a specific date range.
Will this work for you? Please let me know. 🙂
Cheers!

It looks like that is what I need to do but all I have managed so far is to make a custom template by copying the ‘default template’ into my child-theme and placing it in a directory names ‘tribe-events’.
I think this might be beyond my wordpress level of experience, I’m a bit vague on if the tribe_get_events() should be in my functions.php file or on the ‘default-template.php’ page.

I would suggest copying a different template from your theme (e.g. page.php), remane it, then it as the foundation for your query. You can use the tribe-get-events() function directly in that template to create your event query. 🙂
