    Hi,
I have read a lot of the forums and have determined that I am very low in my skill set. I do not know any code. How do I make a page where I can have the Submit an Event come from the community? Ideally I would like to have a big button in the header, but this programming is clearly not WYSIWYG which is what I basically need. I watched the video where I’m supposed to use [tribe_community_events_title] and [tribe_community_events]. I’m so confused. How can I place this link to the community submission form in the header rather than tiny text in the pages menu. What about the templates? I’d like to have a nicer template, butI guess I need 2012? What other templates are compatible?
I have been running a community website and allowing people to post for two years now. I have resisted changing over because I am really dumb when it comes to this higher level of programming. Isn’t there something easier for the non-programmer?

Hi there, Colette! Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the forums. 🙂

It sounds like you already have the Community Events submissions page set up, so great job on getting that part done.

Now it sounds like you want to add a link to that page to the top of your website. That’s a theme-related question rather than something the Community Events plugin is capable of handling, but let me see if I can help at least point you in the right direction.

You are using the WordPress Twenty Twelve theme, so if you log into WordPress, you can add pages to your site’s header by heading to the Appearance > Menus section from the main menu.

    From there:

    • Select the menu you wish to edit. You may need to create a menu if you don’t already have one.
    • Click on the Links tab. Copy and paste the address of the Community Events submission page in the field and click the “Add to Menu” button.
    • Click the “Save Menu” button.

That will add a link to your Community Events submission page to your site’s header. I created this short video to help walk you through it. If you need additional help, I would suggest contacting someone who can help you with site customizations like this. 🙂

    I hope this helps!

I don’t have a links menu. So I tried to add a links menu, but nothing looked the same as your short video. (BTW it went so fast that I could barely keep up with it to even take a note.)
There was no place to insert any URL. Still dazed and confused.

Hi there, Colette! Thanks for following up. 🙂

Try clicking the “Screen Options” box in the top right of your screen when you are in Appearance > Menus. and make sure the “Links”  box is checked. Here is a screenshot of what that will look like. Then you should be able to follow the steps in the clip I provided.

I’m afraid we’re rather limited in providing general WordPress support here in our forums, but I hope this helps and points you in the right direction.

    Cheers!

I did all you said to do, but I do not see any link showing up in the header. I don’t know anyone who can help me do this. I am wondering that since I paid for this add on, why didn’t the Community Software create a link in the header automatically? Why is this so hard to do?

I changed my theme 2012 to another 2012 one and managed to get the link in the header by accident

    Hi there, Colette,

I understand you’re feeling frustrated and are trying to find a simple solution to add items to your site’s main menu.

While The Event Calendar makes the process of publishing and managing events a breeze, it relies on default WordPress functionality to add items to a site’s main menu. In other words, adding a link to the menu for the Community Events page is like adding a link to the menu for other pages to a site’s menu. It’s something that is handled by WordPress rather than the plugin.

I’m sorry my attempts to walk you through the WordPress functionality have fallen short. Perhaps you will find this tutorial by WordPress on creating menus more helpful.

If you’re looking for help configuring your WordPress settings, we would be happy to share a list of freelancers who might be able to help. Just email us at [email protected], reference this thread and we’ll send that over.

    Thanks,
    Geoff

Hi there, Colette. It’s been a while so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread. If we can help with anything else, though, please don’t hesitate to open a new thread. We’d be happy to help. 🙂

    Cheers!
    Geoff
