It sounds like your problems may be related to Daylight Saving Time being applied incorrectly to events when exporting. I would try the following steps first:
- Under Settings > General in your WordPress admin, set your site time to the nearest listed major city in your time zone.
- Set the time zone for your events to the UTC time for your event (i.e. UTC-6 for Chicago).
