ParticipantI have tried any number of things to improve performance of the calendar on the site and nothing seems to be working. It’s anywhere from 12-20 seconds to load the calendar at my site, http://mankato.discoverfamilyfun.com/calendar/.
I have tried a couple caching plugins but they both actually crash the page. I’ve reviewed the performance recommendations from The Events Calendar and still not getting any performance boosts.
This needs to work better, this is completely unacceptable performance.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing performance issues. We have a few reports aimed to improve how our plugin handles large amounts of events, but we don’t have any high-priority bug reports which relate to what you’ve described.
We have quite a few users with tens of thousands of events on their sites, the majority with little to no issues. I’ll provide all the documentation I have in regards to site performance, but ultimately these issues are left up to the site owners.

Have you given WP Rocket a chance? I too struggled with essentially every other caching plugin and had poor results until I tried WP Rocket. Another big difference was moving from shared hosting to DigitalOcean. I highly recommend looking into the possibility of switching your hosting provider to a VPS.
