I launched a redesign of my website on March 1 using Events Calendar Pro. I’ve followed instructions so that each event is using the Yoast SEO box to put a unique meta description on every event. The problem is that the main events page is not using the correct meta description. (This page: http://mauimagazine.net/maui-events/) Instead, it’s showing a meta description from an event post, rather than pulling the meta description that I want for our main events page (see screen shot showing meta description here: https://mauimagazine.net/wp-content/uploads/Screen-Shot-2016-04-05-at-11.40.51-AM.png).
The big problem is that it’s affecting our rank in Google. We should be at slot #2 or #3 for our main keyword “Maui Events Calendar” but with this problematic meta description, the site is dropping to rank spot #4 or #5 since the redesign launched March 1. SEO is a huge part of our redesign so this is a problem and I know it should be easy to fix, but I haven’t been able to figure it out.
How do I control the meta description for the Events page so that it shows the description I have written, instead of pulling from an event post?
Thank you!

I couldn’t see your screenshot: http://cl.ly/1X2E0O1o352U
But did you scroll further down the page on Yoast’s settings to see this? http://cl.ly/18122E3Z2X2i

Cliff, I have previously tested using the Yoast settings from your screen shot. That setting will dictate a standard meta description for every event listing, however it does allow the main events page to use the custom meta description that I need. And I do not want a static description for each event. Each event needs a unique meta description, not a generic description.

Please let me know the results.
Thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I will test that box and see if it creates the desired result. It seems to take Google about 3-10 days to crawl the site and show a new description, so I’ll update this post in about a week confirming if the result is correct or still incorrect.

The Facebook URL Debugger tool may come in handy for your testing without having to wait.
Let me know how things go.
April 8, 2016 at 6:34 pm #1100340DianeParticipantWell, thanks…. that Facebook debugger tool immediately and easily confirms that the wrong meta description is showing! It clearly shows a description from one of our events, not the main description that I want.
How to fix?? 🙁
