ParticipantI am inquiring about the search function. When I am in a specific Category and I perform a search for anything other than what is in that category, it will return no results found. For example, I am in the Event Category “basketball leagues” and I do a search in the top of the page in the ECP search tool and type in Bootcamp (which we have several events for) it will tell me there are no results. If I type in anything in the basketball category, related to basketball, it will find it. So it seems the search is limited if you are in a category. Is there a way to change that so no matter where you are you can search all the events not just within the category?? This is a development site and it will not let me add the correct url in your box below. I can send it to you in a private reply when you respond to this ticket.
Thanks!November 13, 2015 at 2:28 pm #1025488Geoff
MemberHi Allison,
I’m afraid that there is no way to change the search functionality within a category–at least, not without a considerable amount of custom development.
That sounds like a ripe idea for a feature request though and would love it if you could drop it in our feature request forum if you have a chance. I’d be interested to see if others are interested in that as well.
Sorry I don’t have a solution for you here, but does this at least help answer your question? Please let me know.
Thanks,

ParticipantCan’t the form action used for the search be changed to search all instead of category? I can see in the php that it is referencing the current url “/category”

MemberHi Allison,
Right now, I think implementing this is a little beyond what we can help you with–but I’d imagine it’s possible to intercept and modify the query used for searches with some WP know-how and good use of filters.

ParticipantI have tried changing the code from action in bar.php but it isn’t changing the search query. Is there a way within the template or by using a filter that the search bar be hidden only when you are on a category page? That way if people land on a category page they are not confused by the search not showing results. Or a way to add some text only on a category page that says “search within this category only?”

MemberHi Allison,
Yeah, either of those is certainly possible. In fact, here is a list of common conditional PHP wrappers for targeting specific calendar views to get you started:
