ParticipantHello,
We’ve noticed the following when using the search bar with events displayed in month view:
When searching an event that happens in a future month, the results just show a blank calendar of the current month. For example, if you visit our site http://rotarycentreforthearts.com/events/ and search “Mardi Gras” which is an event in February, search results show this month (January) which is blank. Shouldn’t it display the month of the first occurrence of the event?
Thanks

ModeratorHello 🙂
From a user-experience standpoint, I can definitely understand what you mean when you posed the question, “Shouldn’t it display the month of the first occurrence of the event?”
But the direction we chose for the month view made more sense when we dissected it a little further. I checked and when searching “Mardi Gras” in list view and the event displayed as designed.
To accomplish what you’re describing would take customization outside of our support, but if you’d like to attempt it, I can help point you in the right direction.
Thank you for being a great customer and have a wonderful rest of your week!

ParticipantHello,
Thanks and I appreciate that the search shows expected results in other views. We have chosen Month View as our default view, so that is where most users will do their search. Right now every time a user searches an event that occurs in a future month, they see nothing. With respect, it seems to defeat the purpose of the search feature.
Isn’t this something The Events Calendar would want to remedy to improve user experience in this view?
From our perspective, we lose a customer every time this happens. Thanks for your understanding.

ModeratorHello again and thank you for the response!
Again, I completely understand where you’re coming from and I see the value in your point. We are always adding new features and functionality into our suite of plugins and invite our users to voice their opinion on what they’d like to see in future releases. You can do so here.
Thanks for understanding both sides and again, thank you for choosing PRO and if you have any more questions, feel free to start a new thread.

ParticipantI actually thought this was an oversight when I started the thread.
From a technical standpoint, the search results are correct, but people don’t think like computers. If there is nothing showing in this month’s calendar, they assume an event doesn’t exist. And there is no message stating that there are event occurrences in future months (when they exist), therefore no reason why the user would begin clicking through the calendar.
I have posted in user voice. Thanks again.

ModeratorHello Graphic,
Thank you for posting in the UserVoice, we truly appreciate it! To address the issue in reference, we do have a default notice appear when no results are found for that particular month (see screenshot below).

From a technical standpoint, the search results are correct, but people don’t think like computers.
You definitely nailed it here. Keep your eyes peeled for future releases and thanks again for your patience and understanding. I’ll go ahead and close this thread but please feel free to open a new thread if you have any more questions or concerns.
