Search feature in Events Calendar plugin doesn't work

I recently downloaded the Events Calendar plugin. I have not purchased any ad-ons or Pro version. I did my settings and added an event to test it out to see how I like it compared to my previous event plugin. It looks great, but on the calendar page it gives the option to search. I tried searching for my one test event and it doesn’t show results. I searched the tag, key words, and the exact title and it still says no event found. I read that there are search filter ad-ons available for purchase, but the search feature that came with the plugin should be working without the filter ad-on. What does the search bar use to locate an event (tags, keywords)?
