I went today to create a repeating event, and gave it a “no end date” thing. Repeated every Sunday (this is for a church site).

It then went and created like 100+ events in my listing – is it supposed to do that? I just assumed there would be one entry in my list of events with the repeat date in there. Having 100+ (which will be like 300+ once I add in the other repeating events) will really clog the list of events.

Am I just having a wrong expectation here, and it’s supposed to look like that?

If that is the case, any chance it can be changed to the way I describe, just having one item for an entire series in the list? Danke.

Please note that you cannot see this version of the site. If you go to it, youโ€™ll see an old version that doesnโ€™t use this plugin or theme. Iโ€™m constructing it on a private server, and would require you to change the hosts file on your machine to see it.

    And hello again, ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for keeping the topics separate and clean. It is much easier to handle them and to follow up this way.

Yes, recurring events are handled in a way that all recurrence has a separate entry in the database, thus all events appear in the admin separately as well.

In the admin they can be edited either as the whole series, separately, or the series can be split into two.

It might be possible to change it so it works the way you described, but not without extensive programming, which is outside of our support scope.

Let me know if this answers your questions.

    Cheers,

Might I suggest it be altered in some future version? Given this is a church site, regular weekly worship events will GREATLY outnumber other kinds of events, so it will be a “mess” in the events list.

Might be easier if an event series can be shown as just ONE event in the list of events on the back end.

Or is there a way to get the list of events in the admin area to only show me certain categories as I want them? (or perhaps the reverse, show me all but a specific category)

As for the separate questions.. No problem. I do your job for another company, so I hate it when there’s one post with a dozen separate questions. ๐Ÿ™‚

It might also be useful to put something in the docs to warn newbies that creating a repeating event with no end will create a buttload of entries in the database there? Surely I’m not the first person to try that and think “What did I do wrong?”

On the recurring events, if you think that is something you would like as a feature I encourage you to visit our User Voice Page and either upvote an existing request or make a new request there.

As for the listing, you might want to give our Advanced Post Manager plugin a try. It can do exactly what you want and a bit more. And totally free. ๐Ÿ™‚

About the docs, thanks for the tip! I’ll mention it to the team.

Is there anything else in this topic I can help you with?

Found one there that’s got some votes, and is marked as “Longterm roadmap”. So that’s good. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I thought I had a lot with only 100 there. Some with a TON more there. Seems like this is a known complaint.

Joe, thanks a lot for your feedback, much appreciated.

Just talked to a colleague, he confirmed that in the case of an unlimited recurring event, events are created 2 years ahead. So if it’s a weekly, then 2 x 52 events, if it’s monthly then 2 x 12 events etc.

I’m going to close this one as well. You already know the rest. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers,
    Andras
