ParticipantFirst I love the reoccurring events feature. It is flexible and dynamic.
That being said I have been having some difficulty improving SEO with regards to these types of event posts. Because multiple pages are created with the same information I am concerned that search engines are having difficulty. People are searching for things and ending up on older reoccurring event posts that have passed. It also makes it difficult for me to analyze what pages are most popular to my traffic because each reoccurring event date is a separate landing page.
Is there a way for me to set up reoccurring events so that main event address is used each time and they simply replace themselves each time… like say a week before the event happens? Or that they only create a new and separate post if I break them out of sequence? Just brain storming a way to solve this problem and improve SEO reach as well as ensuring people end up on the page with the info they are actually looking for.On another note… I have some reoccurring events that appear in the calendar on the right dates, but the date on the actual event in the list or map view is listed as the very first one posted. Example: One is dated June 20th 2016 and reoccurring weekly and shows up each week with that June 20th date.
Another always shows up as August 21st lately, but I created it before that date. Any thoughts on why this is happening and how to correct it?September 17, 2015 at 9:06 am #1006013Geoff
MemberHey Erin,
Awesome! I’m so glad to hear you’re loving the updates to recurring event patterns. 🙂
A couple of tips for dealing with recurring events and SEO in Events > Settings:
- Recurring event instances: Set to show only the first instance
- Clean up recurring events after: Set this to one month
And, one other piece of good news: the events are recognized as separate posts with unique content in search engines, thanks to the fact that the plugin uses rich snippets to help identify the content as a calendar event. There is no penalty for duplicated content there. 🙂
I have some reoccurring events that appear in the calendar on the right dates, but the date on the actual event in the list or map view is listed as the very first one posted.
Is this the first example you’re referring to? If so, it looks like the date of June 20 is displaying correctly in all places, and that the dates for all the instances after it are as well. Is that the same for you or am I perhaps I should be looking somewhere else?
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks for the SEO advice/info.
As for the dates, June 20 is not correct. When folks go to the main page, they are looking at a list of upcoming events. It is confusing when the event lists the first date of a reoccurring event and not the date of the next instance of it. When they look at the events list on the main page I want them to see today’s date, or tomorrow’s date for events, not a date from months ago. Does that make sense?-

ParticipantNever mind… I don’t know why the dates were showing up wrong for some of some reoccurring events. I opened them to edit them, but everything looked right, so i just clicked update and everything corrected itself.
