ParticipantFirst, thanks for the great plugins.
Second – I’ve been hammered by spam, as it seems many others are. I’ve changed the setting to put every new submission as a draft (which is a real bummer/time kill), but my question is this:
Until you release a fix for the spam issue, is there a way to remove the locations from the Events database?
Thanks.

ParticipantDoes anyone have a hack for the community events submission form to add a captcha element?

ParticipantHello jimduncan,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
I’m sorry to hear about the spam issues on your site. I understand how frustrating that can be.
Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a direct way to delete (or stop from being created) venues that were created from spam entries. I’ll have to do a little research and ask the team if there is something we can help out with in that regard. I’ll get back with you shortly.
Out of curiosity, how many spam venues do you estimate that you have in your database.
Mac,
Were you able to get the plugin working that was offered as a solution in this ticket?
Thanks!

Participant@josh – I’d wager 25-50 venues. I’ve been absolutely hammered.
Thanks.

ParticipantHello jimduncan,
Thanks for following up!
Unfortunately, as of right now the best bet would be to manually delete the spam venues from your site. Ongoing, we are looking into ways to control Spam event creation for Community events. Until then, have you tried following the solution provided by Casey within this ticket. This will help to stop the post creation for the spam events and venues.
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to give you a direct response however I hope this was able to point you in the right direction.
Thanks!

ParticipantThe plugin code worked. Casey Driscoll is The Man. We were getting 20+ and increasing spam events. None since the plugin was installed. Here’s the process I used (we already had Really Simple Captcha installed in tandem with Contact Form 7):
1. Backed up.
2. Created a new folder in the /wp-contents/plugins folder and named it patched-up-community-events-captcha
3. copied the code Casey provided and pasted into Notepad and saved file as a .php
4. uploaded the .php into the newly created patched-up-community-events-captcha folder
5. Activated plugin from the wp-admin control panel
6. testedSeptember 12, 2014 at 5:54 pm #740867Josh
ParticipantHello Mac,
Thanks for adding that follow up! That will definitely be helpful for other users in the future.
Jim,
Were you able to get that to work for your site?
Thanks!
