ParticipantHow do I display related events? I am probably missing something obvious, but I cannot get related events to display.

MemberHey there Ebrahim-Khalil. Are your events tagged + categorized? If you’ve got either in play the related functionality should show. Let me know if I’m misunderstood here.

ParticipantHi Rob,
I have three events all tagged, and categorized exactly the same. They do not show as related events. I am working locally using the free plugin. Does that make a difference? Any assistance appreciated.

ParticipantHi again,
One more thing, is the export to ical feature supposed to appear automatically? I have used this.
I am using Clean Slate theme from Obox-designs.com, and restricted content pro from Pippinsplugins. Both should not be a problem?

MemberHi Ebrahim-Khalil,
I believe the related events feature is part of the PRO version of the plugin, and not available in the free version.
The iCal should display on its own. If you still having an issue with this I recommend that you try deactivating all your plugins and see if anything is interfering with it, maybe also try switching to a default theme such as twenty thirteen and see if you can see that functionality then.

ParticipantHi Tribe Dudes,
I have tried a ton of combinations, including running only events calender pro and the default WordPress theme, and I cannot get the related events to show. I could be doing something wrong, but think I have tagged and categorised the events correctly. Using something else for now, as I just need to get a project started.
Some feedback might be helpful:
1. I have tested this across various themes and plugins – all from credible sources, and usually a premium theme or plugin. Compatibility seems to be a major issue for me. Others might not experience this. But, I think your plugin should play nicely with other themes and plugins. Either I am not using the plugin properly, or there are some major compatibility issues that need to be addressed. (for instance, canvas from woothemes does not display the calender at all, using some templates). In comparison, a different event calender zero compatibility issues, but not the good interface that your guys have developed.
2. The problem as I can see from a non-technical perspective it is that one needs to set a template for displaying the calender. The default template is fullwidth, which is not what I need. Perhaps, adding a “events calender sidebar template” would sort out most issues. In that way I would not need to see if a blog template, or another template with a sidebar.
3. Other event calenders do away with the template completely, and simply use a shortcode that can be inserted in a post or page. This is what I am going with at the moment. I know some developers have a problem with shortcodes, but it is doing the job in this case.
4. Release a theme or list of compatible themes that one can use with Events Calender. (I would consider buying the theme on the demo, as it looks good and I know it has the functionality it has).
Hope this is helpful, and looking forward to continuing to use The Events Calender. If you go with my suggestions, I would be happy to beta test locally.
Thanks,

ParticipantHi
Getting somewhere. Misunderstood what were features available on free version and the paid version. So sorted out related events and adding events to an online calender.
Suggestions on better integration with themes still stand.

MemberHi Ebrahim – Khalil,
I’m glad you got to the bottom of most of your issues, and sorry that there was a misunderstanding with regards to the Pro and Free versions of the plugin. We do try our very best to have this plugin work with as many plugins and themes as possible, but with varying standards from other authors and publishers its very hard to guarantee that across the board. Either way if our support team will help in such a case an offer what ever support we can at that time.
It seems like from your post that you have decided to go with another plugin, and that you have realized that the original issue in play here was a result of not having the correct version of the plugin running in this case. I’ll go ahead and close this ticket, but if any of these other issues you have mentioned above crop up again, and you upgrade to the Pro plugin for this project, please feel free to start a new thread and we’ll be happy to jump in and give what ever issue you have a lash.
