    Hello! Excellent plugin, thank you!

One issue: we have many events in our calendar, and we’ve tagged each event. Though there are differences between our events, the related events section for each event shows the same three events. Can you help me understand where it pulls from and how to get it to show different related events? Thanks!

    Howdy @sunbridgeinstitute,

Good question! The related events section shows events from the same Event Category. I’m afraid that tags do not factor into what is displayed there.

Does this help answer your question? Please let me know.

    Thanks!
    Geoff

Thanks for the reply Geoff. We’ve adjusted our event categories based on your reply, but we’re still seeing the same three related events at the bottom of each of our events. On our staging site I upgraded to the latest versions of the events calendar and the events calendar pro (4.2) but that didn’t fix the issue either. Can you help us get this feature working properly? Much appreciated.

Hi @sunbridgeinstitute and thanks for following up!

There is one other thing that Related Events takes into account, which is the event titles in addition to the event category.

It looks like many of the same events are showing up in your Related Events section, but they do change from event-to-event.

For example, this event (screenshot) is showing different related events than this event (screenshot).

In other words, it seems like everything is working–are you getting different results when you compare events? There will indeed be times when the Related Events from one events will be the same as another, but it would be an issueย if that was always the case.

Let me know if I’m seeing that correctly and we can go from there.

    Thanks!

    Hi Geoff,
I’ve tried a number of things, and my issues are still unresolved.
Is it possible to have a phone conversation about this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there!

I’m sorry, but we do not offer phone support. I’m happy to continue looking into this with you if you can help provide me with more information on the issue.

For example, the screenshots I provided in my last reply were examples of how Related Events seemed to be working correctly. Would you be willing to provide me links and/or screenshots where that is not the case? And if you do, it would be awesome to see a screenshot of the settings for those events as well.

    Thanks so much!
    Geoff

Thanks for the extra info and the screenshots! This is super helpful. ๐Ÿ™‚

Once two events are in the same category, the Related Events feature will take any and all events in that same category into account. And, in this case, all of these events are in the “Featured” category, which makes them all related, at least in the eyes of the Related Events feature.

If these events are not related, then it would make sense to remove the “Featured” category altogether from them. Otherwise, the system will always see them as related.

Alternately, you can disable the Related Events feature by heading to Events > Settings > Display and selecting the option to “Hide related events” (screenshot).

Does this help clarify things a bit? Please let me know. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers,
    Geoff

    Yes, totally clarifies!

Removing the “Feature” category wasn’t an option, as then the events wouldn’t show up on my home page. But being able to disable the Related Events feature altogether was a fine solution.

    Thanks so much!

    Best,
    Ivy

My pleasure, Ivy! Sorry for the initial back-and-forth, but i’m super glad all is good now. Cheers and have a great rest of the week. ๐Ÿ™‚
