ParticipantI’m trying to use Events Calendar / Pro on my site. I already purchased Pro. I asked a question about a compatible theme because I’ve tried many many times to install and get it all working and had many crashes…ended up deactivating and deleting all files at least 7 times.
Per your suggestion, I have now purchased Avada theme.
Here’s what is happening.
I install. WP. I update to latest version.
I deactivate all plugins my host includes automatically (AAbaco or Luminate is the host — used to be Yahoo)
I upload Events / Events Pro
I activate
Events
Events ProI add an event
I think go to look at my calendar
http://wyfs.org/wyfs/events/And I receive this error
This webpage has a redirect loopERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
(This happens on various devices — it is not particular to the machine I am using)
I tried deactivating Pro. Same problem.
I have not yet activated a new theme — I’m just using the standard 2014 theme.
IF I activate the Avada theme, the whole site crashes, including the admin area. If I try to access the admin area, I get a blank screen or a “error 505” screen.
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks-

MemberHello @Macdara,
Sorry for the trouble here with redirects! Let’s see if we can track this one down together.
First off, will you please try flushing your permalinks? You can do that by heading to Settings > Permalinks, selecting the Post Name option and saving the settings. That resolves many of the redirect issues I’ve seen in the past and hopefully will work here as well.
Let’s start there and see what we find.
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks for the quick reply. I tried changing the permalink settings to Post Name. Saved the setting. Problem still happened. Then I deleted the one event I had created, created a new event, tried again…same problem.

MemberThanks for giving that a shot!
One more thing before we dig much deeper into this: Do you have any other pages or posts that use use the word Events in the title or slug?
Flushing permalinks can sometimes help, but redirect loops are often the result of things that affect the server. So, for example, if you have any other plugins installed that manage redirects or there have been changed made to the site’s htaccess file. My hunch is there is something to do with the dev site being installed on a subdirectory, but let’s see where we get first before we dig that deep.
Thanks!

ParticipantI have deactivated all other plugins (tho not uninstalled them) and have no content in the blog currently other than 1 “test” post and 1 “sample” event.
I unfortunately don’t have access to the htaccess file, as far as I can tell. I believe its a hidden file, but my host does not give me access to hidden files (as best as I can tell).

MemberHey @Macdara,
I’ve been looking into this with others on the team.
In short, I don’t see anything on the calendar’s end that would cause a redirect loop to happen.
Instead, it seems the root cause is on the server itself. In other words, there is something with how WordPress is configured that is interfering with the way redirects are written. This seems to be the most plausible explanation based on how you’ve described the installation (default WordPress Twenty Eleven theme with plugins installed by the host) and the fact that we’ve been unable to replicate the issue ourselves.
I hate to pass you over to someone else for support, but would you be willing to contact your host? My hope is that they will be able to provide insight for why issues like this would arise from a subdirectory install of WordPress like this.
Specifically, I know WordPress needs write-access to the .htaccess file in order to write redirects so, perhaps that file needs to be made available to you and to WordPress in order to properly perform the action. Here’s more info from the WordPress Codex on how WordPress uses the .htaccess file to make redirects.
Sorry I don’t have more of a concrete answer for you here but I do hope this does shine light on what’s happening so the issue can get resolved. And, of course, I’m happy to leave this thread open while you contact the host in case any other questions pop up for us that we can help answer.
Thanks,

ParticipantThanks for all your help. I got this email from my service provider (see below). Does their response explain the problem?
thanks-
Hello Macdara,
Thank you for contacting Aabaco Customer Care.
My name is Jitendra, I am glad to assist you.
I understand that you wish to access the htaccess file to troubleshoot the issue you hare having with theme. I apologize for the inconvenience.
The name .htaccess refers to the main configuration file for Apache, a popular open-source HTTP server. The .htaccess file can be used to create custom error pages and web page redirects, set up password protection, enable SSI, and more. Aabaco does not currently allow you to upload .htaccess files to your account. For other customization options, we recommend the custom Error Pages and password-protection features available in your Web Hosting Control Panel.
Thank you again for contacting Aabaco Customer Care. We appreciate your business and look forward to assisting you in the future.
Regards,
Jitendra

MemberThanks for the update!
I think a good follow-up question would be whether it is possible for the host to allow WordPress to create and modify that file. the link I shared earlier to the WordPress Codex explains how WordPress needs that file in order to create what it calls “pretty” permalinks having the calendar live at a permalink like /events/ will require that WordPress has the ability to write those rules.
