Hello, the recurring events once initially published can’t be updated. I just receive a spinning loading icon. The issue is solved when I disable our theme and use the twenty twelve theme. We’re using a theme called “Accent 1.6” with some customizations as well. I don’t know how to pinpoint the issue to solve it. Any advice you can give would be really appreciated.

Hi Pauline, that’s really difficult to answer – there are so many different themes out there and they can have radically different structures, so it’s simply impossible to guarantee compatibility.

That said, and bearing in mind I can’t offer any guarantees here, if you could shoot a copy of your theme (as a .zip) across to us I’d be happy to take a quick look and see if anything obvious jumps out.

Our email address is [email protected] (please put FAO Barry somewhere in the email subject field!).

Hi Pauline, thanks for sending that over.

Just as a quick side note, first of all – the first thing I noticed was this raft of errors on activation http://pastebin.com/LxCNmXPQ which is fairly unusual (I caught these by having debug mode on). That isn’t connected to the problem you are reporting, but I just thought I’d give you a heads up in case it helps to explains any other issues you might be having.

On to the problem at hand, what seems to be happening here is that Accent is causing two different versions of jQuery UI (a neat library that WordPress uses to create admin interfaces) to be loaded during the same request – that’s causing a conflict. So, Javascript execution is halting and what you are left with is a spinner icon that keeps spinning.

What I’d suggest is contacting the theme author – this is possibly an oversight and it won’t always cause problems, but it should be easy for him or her to fix.

    Hi,
As per your suggestion, we contacted the theme developer and they said they could not help us out in this issue. So we decided to make a workaround in such a way that, whenever any recurring event is updated, no modal will be displayed, rather every recurring event corresponding to that particular event will be updated. We thought it would be a possible way to avoid the jquery ui conflict that is affecting the updation method right now. Therefore we tried to make some customizations as per our need by disabling the modal which is opened whenever any recurring event is set to be updated. But whenever we tried so, the coding stopped running. Can you please suggest us a way so that we can make the necessary changes as per our need?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pauline

    Hi Pauline,

I’m really sorry to hear they aren’t willing to help out here.

Unfortunately there is not a lot I can do here either – it seems to me the problem is the direct result of two different version of jQuery UI being loaded. What I’d note here is that The Events Calendar uses the version that ships with and is used by WordPress itself … so I really do see this as something that the theme vendor would need to resolve, since their code is introducing the additional, conflicting library.

I know it’s not a great deal of help to you to have each of us pointing our fingers at the other vendor, but I wanted to give some sort of rationale to help explain my decision here.

Unfortunately I can’t help with your custom workaround either; it sounds like perhaps a syntax error is occurring but again it is out of the scope of support here on the Pro forum to troubleshoot custom scripts like this one.
