Hi. My name is Rachel. I run a website with Event Calendar Pro. thelakecountrymom.com Recently recurring events are not showing up correctly. For example I enter an event that occurs every Thursday for let’s say 6 weeks. (for example a Farmers Market) on the calendar it will fill in each Thursday for the next 6 weeks. The first week everything looks good, I can click on the title on event, view events, times are perfect. The next occurrence, the following Thursday-I click on link it takes to “page no longer exists, 404 error.” But, I do see it is supposed to be on this day, the title shows, all occurrences show on the calendar but when I click on each individual one it goes nowhere. I read the forums with people with similar issues. I was reading about permalinks, could this be an issue? Would this be causing a 404 error? At times it also duplicates a recurring event onto the next day. (A Wednesday event also shows up on Thursday) What is going on here? I am not a WordPress Guru, but my site depends on this calendar. I am willing to pay anyone to help me correct this. I bought the PRO version to use recurring events but now it has the entire calendar completely is disarray, my clients are complaining immensely. With nearly 8k hits each month, it is not looking good! I need to fix this or I need to get a new plug-in STAT. Side note: it hasn’t always been like this the entire time, this is a recent error.

    Hi – I’m sorry you’re facing difficulties.

Side note: it hasn’t always been like this the entire time, this is a recent error.

This is interesting: did this problem coincide with any specific changes – whether an update to our own plugins or to unrelated plugins/your theme/WordPress itself? Or even a setting change, even if it related to a different plugin?

Are newly created recurring events similarly effected?

No I have not updated any plug ins recently. Nothing has changed. It’s completely messed up, all recurring events whether past or present are not working and causing errors.

Can anyone please help with this issue? If there isn’t a way to resolve, please tell me so, so I can stop trying a move on to a new plug-in. I have spend several entire wasted days trying to correct this problem. I have done everything the forums have suggested from people with similar issues. Permalinks end with post, not default (always have) I have deactivated the plug-ins, I have re-installed the Event Calendar & Pro version twice. WordPress is up to date, the Event Calendar & Pro are up to date versions. All my other plug-ins on site are not new, nor have been recently updated. ALL PAST & PRESENT RECURRING EVENTS are affected. You click on them individually and gives the 404 error, sating it no longer exists. I PAID for the PRO version and it is doing me NO GOOD AT ALL!!!! Is this a scam or what? I cannot deal with this, I paid for it to HAVE recurring events, that is what I wanted and that is what I NEED. Anyone out there that can help me? Please. Thank you.

    Hi Rachel,

I’m sorry for the delay and frustration this has caused you but please note that we do not typically deliver support on weekends so, if you post on Friday, you may not get a reply until Monday. We try to be upfront about the level of support we provide here on the forums but I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear enough.

Permalinks end with post, not default (always have)

Can you clarify what you mean here? It looks to be like you are using default permalinks – ie ones that end with a question mark and a list of parameters, such as example.com/?page_id=25 … is this something you changed since your last post or are you able to enable “pretty permalinks” so the URLs look more like example.com/page-name instead?

Beyond that, it’s clear you’ve got a live and fairly busy site so let’s take a different approach to troubleshooting, if we can. If you have a test site let’s us that – but if not, please simply install a fresh copy of WordPress in a subdirectory.

With that done, before you do anything else, please install and activate only The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO. Create some recurring events and test to see if they work as expected.

Let’s assume for the moment they do work as expected – can you now start adding all the plugins (and ultimately the same theme) as you have on your live site? Each time you install and activate something, test to see if the recurring events are affected (and it may also be worth creating a new set of recurring events to check if they are affected).

This can be a solid way of approaching the problem and troubleshooting without impacting on your live site.

    Hi Rachel and Barry,

I too bought the Pro plugin for the recurring events, and it doesn’t appear to behave in a logical fashion for many reasons, but this reason especially has become a problem for my client.

Looking at my 404 with PHP Debug enabled, it seems that a recurring event that takes the format

    event/event-name-here/2014-24-06

which matches the “attachment” rule in the redirects:

    event/[^/]+/([^/]+)/?$

instead of matching as a post like a single event would with:

    event/([^/]+)(/[0-9]+)?/?$

So basically viewing a single event in a recurring sequence isn’t possible as it is getting caught incorrectly as an attachment rewrite, and misdirected accordingly?

I might be offtrack here but thought it might be worth mentioning.
