Marlies
GuestHi there,
I’m considering buying TEC Pro, because I need to be able to display recurring events. My question: is it possible to have recurring events that are not regular? Like this:
Event 1:
October 9,
Nov 5-6,
Dec 3-4,
Jan 22,
Feb 12Would that be possible to display within the same event?
Please let me know. And is it possible to actually register for the event? Or do we need Eventbrite or Wootickets for that?
Thanks very much!
Best,
MarliesApril 15, 2013 at 12:43 pm #45858Rob
MemberHey there Marlies! Thanks for your note, and for your interest in checking out the plugin. Happy to answer your questions here best I can.
Regarding the random recurrence patterns: as it stands we do have a number of custom recurrence options, and they can allow you to create pretty unique / one-off schedules; but they don’t allow complete random recurrence. This video gives an overview of how it behaves: https://theeventscalendar.com/test-video/. It’s sort of old, as it was recorded for the release of 2.0, but our custom recurrence really hasn’t changed at all for 3.0 so the information presented here still rings true (even if the page aesthetics are a bit different). We are indeed looking for a way to add more truly random recurrence options for the 3.0 lifecycle as well…however those probably won’t be included in the initial 3.0 build.
When it comes to registration: no built in registration component at the moment (though we’ve had a ton of requests for it and will probably end up building something later on). At this point it does require either WooTickets or Eventbrite Tickets to be done effectively.
Hope that helps! If you have other questions, or if I missed anything here, please let me know and I’ll follow-up as needed. Cheers.

GuestHi – I was wondering the same thing, I guess the reason being to save having to re-enter the same event over and over.
Another way of looking at it – can you have event templates e.g. if you have the same event happen every so often, use a template to pre-populate fields such as description etc?
Cheers

MemberHey Ed. Thanks for the follow-up (and for your interest as well). I’m not following what you’re going for here; are you envisioning doing this through template tags, or actually creating an events template that is called in certain circumstances?

GuestThanks for your reply, Rob. I really hope you will include it some day soon, because I love how your plugin displays the events…
Thanks!April 19, 2013 at 12:36 pm #46360Rob
MemberDefinitely! It’s one of our most-requested functions, this random recurrence capability…it’s mainly a matter of finding how to build it and have it work properly and elegantly. But know it is on the radar.
Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks again for your support.

ParticipantHi Rob,
Is a workaround possible, to add an additional event to a recurrence of events? Basically the event would always have the same length, content, etc. That would be acceptable until thats a included feature, I guess. That would make that plugin even more fantastic.
Many thanksApril 23, 2013 at 1:14 pm #46681Rob
MemberHey mindgroup. We’re hoping to at least have some written assistance on how to customize for incorporating extra/more randomized recurrence patterns to release with 3.0, but that is really the element we’re most stuck on. It’s more likely that once we figure out how to do it – rather than provide tutorials – we’ll just bundle that with the plugin and ship it for everyone from there.
Sorry I couldn’t offer you more in the short term. I want to have this out there sooner rather than later, since I agree it could add huge value for the plugin. I’ll keep you guys posted either way.
