KeymasterHi Ihtezaz,
I’m sorry to hear that you are still experiencing this issue. At this point, you may want to talk to your host and see if they have any suggestions about how to improve the speed of your site, such as upgrading your PHP version. You can also ask them if you have any PHP errors in your error log. This could help to point you in the right direction.
You will also want to update your Events Calendar and all related plugins to their most recent versions.
Another thing you may want to look into is the plugins on this list: https://theeventscalendar.com/favorite-developer-plugins/. Something like Query Monitor may be able to help pinpoint where the issue is occurring.
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantHi Jamie,
I have brought the issue of the 500 error up with my hosts and they mentioned that ‘the script is timing out after 120 seconds. We have checked online and it looks like a few people are experiencing this issue as they have changed the way the recurring events work: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/unresponsive-script-when-editing-recurring-events/’
They have mentioned that I should bring the issue up with you as the issue has occurred with other buyers but still may not be resolved. Would increasing the time-out script solve the issue? If so, Could please send me some instructions on how to do that?
I am happy to send over any system info that may be required to scrutinise this problem as we are finding it difficult to generate events that last longer than a few weeks onto our website.
Thanks,

KeymasterHi Ihtezaz,
I’m sorry to hear that you are still having this issue! As I had mentioned in a previous reply, you may want to consider increasing the max_execution_time in php.ini (the default value is 30 seconds):
max_execution_time = 60;
If increasing the max_execution_time to 1 minute is still not enough, you can adjust/increase it more to ensure that the server will have time to process your requests before it hangs. You should be able to change this setting with your host, or within your cPanel (depending on your host).
Please let me know if you need any further assistance on this and let me know how it goes!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantHi Jaime,
I have increased the max execution time, however, I still get the 500 error issue.
Is there anything else I can try to do to solve this issue?
Also, Would it be worth giving you the log in info to our site so you can replicate the problem and and see if there is a solution? Thanks,

KeymasterHi Ihtezaz,
I’m sorry to hear that you are still experiencing this issue! Over time your site will continue to slow down if you/your client want to keep all of the past recurring events. You can look into a different server, with a greater capacity in order to accommodate your needs.
I would also recommend updating all of your Events Calendar plugins, as new versions have been released since we began this conversation.
Just to confirm, are you only seeing this issue when you create a new recurring event? Please let me know when exactly you are seeing the 500 error.
Have you looked into caching, as I had linked to previously?
https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/caching-basics/
Also you may want to try to install Query Monitor on your site, which can help to pinpoint where some issues may be on your site.
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantHi Jamie,
We are considering getting a server with a larger capacity for the website but do you reckon that it will solve the recurring events issue?
Also, I have updated the plugin to the most recent one, but the issue still occurs.
Yes – I only see the issue when I create a recurring event. If the event lasts more than two weeks, we get the 500 error. You can replicate the issue using the info I previously sent.
Have you looked into caching, as I had linked to previously?
Yes – I have installed a few plugins to achieve this but it still did not have an effect on the site. Thanks,

KeymasterHi Ihtezaz,
I’m sorry to hear that you are still experiencing this issue!
It may be worth it to look into getting a server with a large capacity, or at least bringing the issue up with your host. You can also ask your host for PHP error logs, to see if any additional errors are appearing.
If you’d like to continue to keep an archive of all previous events, it is difficult for me to give you additional suggestions at this point.
The only other thing I can suggest, which I have previously linked to is to try to install Query Monitor on your site, which can help to pinpoint where some issues may be on your site.
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks,
Jaime

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
