    Hi guys

    Link http://bikecal.net/event/wiggle-haywards-heath-howler-sportive/
Tried to import with GBP as code.

My CSV file simply has a column with $, £ and €

Everything has been mapped to $.

I input the codes to the CSV file with Windows Alt-0128 for EU for example

    Thanks
    Tim

PS: the csv template download on your CSV pages is not updated for RC3.12 so doesn’t include the allowed/proper formatting for currency codes (that I could see)

    Hey Tim,

Thanks for reaching out to us! Also, thanks for helping us with digging into the changes that we have coming with The Events Calendar 3.12!

Would you mind emailing a copy of the CSV file that you’re using to support[at]theeventscalendar.com with a link to this thread?

    Thanks!

Hi Josh, still no joy. All the GBP is going to $.
I wonder if it’s my encoding?

I am saving as a CSV from Excel 2013.

My Euro codes have been entered via Alt-0128

When I opened your example, Euro codes were €?

    Hey Tim,

    Thanks for following up!

For the CSV, I just copied the contents of the existing file that you emailed. Traditionally when using currency codes though, I’m on a Apple and the commands are “option +” an additional character. I imagine this would be the same for the “Alt-0128” that you’re currently using.

I’ll check with the team to see if there is any additional insight I can get from a Windows user on the team.

    Thanks!

    Josh,
I have a Mac at home but haven’t tried that.

When I opened your file on Windows/Excel I got the weird encoding, but when I opened in Wordpad, I got the right symbol.

    Could it be file encoding?

Hey Tim, just following up with you here while Josh is out on a much-deserved vacation.

Encoding could be an issue. Are you able to copy and post the correct symbol into the CSV fields, save the file, then try uploading from there? I checked the same file Josh provided and it seemed as though some of the events were set up for $ while others had not currency symbol.

Also, I do want to note that there are cases where updating an event’s currency retroactively will not work. In these cases, I would try setting up a new event with the correct symbol and see if the issue persists.

    Thanks!

    Hey Geoff
Assume I am operating in Excel/CSV regardless of whether it’s Mac/OSX Yosemite or Wintel Win 7.

How do I get the right Euro and GBP symbols in?

$ seems to cause no issues.

Some events may have no symbols.

The problematic ones are EUR and GBP.

    Hey Tim,

I have seen some strange encoding issues for other users using Excel. When they export, the created CSV doesn’t allows manage special characters properly and imports “?” in their place.

This could be whats happening here since you’re seeing the proper symbols when using Wordpad. As an alternative, have you tried using Google Spreadsheets to see if the way you currently enter the codes works when exporting from there?

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh
I don’t know if this is the issue: I opened my file in Wordpad and Pounds and Euro display fine.

Can I provide and example for you to test please?

    Hey Tim,

Thanks for emailing that file over!

I looked at it and both the US Dollar and the Pound symbols are showing nicely however the file does have an issue with displaying the Euro and does subsequently impact the import. The others imported fine.

A couple of things if you’re still facing issues:

    1. I don’t believe you can overwrite the existing currency setting by re-importing over an existing event.
    2. There still appear to be extra columns within the file which causes a bit of confusion with multiple “CURRENCY CODE” options available within the dropdown for import. It’s possible for some that aren’t importing that an empty column is getting selected for import.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

Hi Josh, I’ll address the extra columns but can you offer any insight on the Euro symbol?

    We’re close.

    Sorry to be a drag!

    Hey Tim,

Thanks for following up. To be honest I’m really not sure what could/would be happening here. Since this is something that is happening independent of our plugin and prior to any import I am limited in the amount of support that I am able to provide here. You can check out something like https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/885e8f7e-bb69-462c-b242-d6553fc8c026/csv-file-with-junk-characters-on-currency-symbol to see if this provides any insight into this one for you.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks1

    Josh,
I just checked the file in Text Edit on a Mac.
The pounds are displaying fine. Euros not.

I opened in Numbers – Euro no good.

    Find-replaced Euro, reimported, fixed.

    Thanks for all your help
