ParticipantHi,
To drive more organic traffic, we’d like to create landing pages that display events from specific locations and/or categories.
It seems that the article “Embedding Calendar Views with the [tribe_events] Shortcode” contains some information and that shortcode will allow us to achieve some of our goals, such as turning off the Tribe Bar and only showing events that are in a specified event category. We do have a few questions about the shortcode though:
- Can more than one category be specified in the shortcode (if yes, can you provide an example of the formatting)?
- How can we only show events that are occurring in a specified location/State, such as Massachusetts?
- If we hide the Tribe Bar with
[tribe_events view="list" tribe-bar="false"], will that also hide the Filter Bar? - We’ve customized the layout and styling of our main calendar views with template overrides. Will the [tribe_events] shortcode inherit those? If not, what’s the best way to attain the same layout and styling of our main calendar views?
Thank you,

KeymasterHi Karly!
I will try to answer all of your questions.
1) Unfortunately, the [tribe_events] shortcode does not currently support multiple categories. There is an open request for this feature, so please vote for it if you’d like this feature added.
For the time being, a workaround would be to create a parent category for the multiple categories you want to display, and then add that parent category into the shortcode.
2) There is no default shortcode attributes for limiting events by state. However, you could apply the state name/location as a category to the events and segregate them that way.
3) The Filter Bar currently only displays on the main calendar page, and not a calendar generated via shortcode. So, setting tribe-bar to “false” will only affect the general bar.
4) The shortcode will use any custom templates you have added, as long as they are for the same view. For example, “month” view, “list” view, etc.
Please let me know if I’ve answered your questions or if you have any others.
Thanks,

ParticipantHi Sky,
Thanks so much for all these details. This is definitely helpful. Do any of the other shortcodes allow filtering by state? Or is that type of filter not available for any of the shortcodes?
Thank you,

KeymasterKarly,
Glad I could help! Regarding your followup question: that is not something that can be filtered through any of the shortcodes. However, there is a the option to filter by location within the filterbar.
Thanks, and let us know if you have any questions or issues in the future!

ParticipantAh, bummer. Thanks for letting us know though. Hopefully that functionality will be added in the future. We added our votes to a few such requests on UV. Thanks again.
