    Hi there,
I am looking at using Events Calendar (Community bundle) as a centralised ticketing system for Scouts (and Guides) in the UK to manage ticket sales / places for both national and local events. However, some local events would only be open to the Boys and Girls (and their parents) of their local groups, or within a certain District of groups – for example Scout Camps, Scout Group AGMs etc. However some events would be open to anyone in Scouting from across the country / Internationally – Jamborees, Moots, Gangshows etc.

Is there a way to make events “Public” or “Private”?
So public events are listed and searchable on the site etc. Meanwhile, private events are not listed / searchable and can only be accessed (to book/purchase tickets) via the link provided to the organiser?

I understand this is a specific issue, but any support would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Leigh

    Hi Leigh,

Thanks so much for your interest in our plugins! Unfortunately, there isn’t currently a way to designate specific events as “private” events to hide them from your calendar views. However, there are a couple of ways that you may be able to achieve this functionality on your site:

    • By changing the Visibility for a given event to Password protected, you can specify a password that users will need to enter to view event content. This will not hide the event titles from your calendar views, but it will ensure that users without the proper password will not be able to view any other content from the event. For more information on password protection for WordPress posts, you can check out WordPress’s documentation on the subject: https://codex.wordpress.org/Content_Visibility
    • If you’re comfortable taking on some customizations, you can designate a specific category for private events and add some code to hide events with that category for your calendar views. This forum post provides some details and a code snippet to get you started! https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/hide-private-event-on-calendar/

I hope that helps to get you on your way here! Thanks again, and please don’t hesitate to follow up if you should have any other questions! 🙂

    Hi Caroline,

Ah… That’s a shame. I was hoping to find a slightly more elegant solution, especially with allowing users to sign up and post/add their events themselves. Would this be a feature that you’d be willing to add? Or is there a way to get such a feature?

    Cheers,
    Leigh

    Hi Leigh,

Thanks for following up! I’m so sorry for the disappointment here. 🙁 We’re always open to adding new features and expanding the functionality of existing ones to better meet our users’ needs. If you’re interested in seeing this feature brought to a future version of our plugins, we’d love to have you submit your idea to our UserVoice forum here:

    https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas

Submitting your feature suggestion on our UserVoice forum will get it on our development team’s radar for future updates and will allow other users to vote their interest and add comments, as well. We regularly monitor these forums to gather ideas for product feature releases, so it’s the best way to make your interest known for a particular idea. We hope that you’ll consider joining us there!

Let us know if you should have any other questions here or if there’s anything else that we can do for you. Cheers, and thanks so much again for stopping by! 🙂

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
