ParticipantHi! Most of my events are recurring but change slightly every month. I only find out about the changes a couple of weeks in advance, so I need to update each series every month. There are frequent exclusions as well. For example, I have a series of events published on Thursday mornings in September. I went jn recently to extend these events into October, with a different web page for the October events and a couple of exclusions. I did this by going to the last event in the series (Sept. 24) and extending the recurring end date to Oct. 29. Then I “viewed” the event on Oct. 1st and hit “edit future events” in the top wordpress menu. I changed the “event website” for that series, and published. When I “viewed” my calendar, it had created duplicate events for Oct. 8-24. On each week, one of the duplicates showed my website change, and one didn’t. Then when I tried to delete the duplicates, they seemed to come up as individual events (not a series – no recurring dates).
Please let me know the best way for me to (a) extend each series of events month by month, and (b) make changes and exclusions to the series after a certain date (e.g. I want my Sept. events on Thursday mornings to remain the same, but all the ones after October to show slightly different info). Thanks!

MemberHi,
Thanks for using our plugins I can help out here.
When you edited the last event did you edit it as a single event or the series of events?
Do you have the settings you used so I can try to replicate. For your initial recurring event and that what you added to it.
b) make changes and exclusions to the series after a certain date (e.g. I want my Sept. events on Thursday mornings to remain the same, but all the ones after October to show slightly different info).
Unfortunately, this is not possible. You can edit single events in a recurring series, but once you do it breaks them from the series. There is no way to have a group in one month say one thing and a group next month say another.
The only way to achieve this is to create a recurring series for each month so you can update each month at a time.
Let me know about those settings and we can go from there.
Thanks

ParticipantThanks! This answers my question – if I can’t have a series of events change after a certain date and the earlier events remain as they were, then my “(a)” question above is moot. I’ll just extend the events month by month using “edit series.” However, I am wondering: what is the purpose of “edit future events” and how should it be used? If you can’t change a series halfway through, doesn’t that mean that “edit future events” serves the same function as “edit series”? Thanks again.

MemberHi,
The Edit Upcoming Events was designed to change the content of the future events, but not the dates.
The Edit All would edit all the events including the past ones.
