ParticipantFor some reason Events Calendar Pro has disappeared from my list of plug-ins. I have an active license key. I have tried to download from the WordPress download page and I get this message
Installing Plugin from uploaded file: events-calendar-pro.4.4.25(1)(2).zip
Unpacking the package…
Installing the plugin…
Destination folder already exists. /home/caseylibrary/caseylibrary.org/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/
Plugin installation failed.
Return to Plugin Installer
I do not know where to go from here.. If I am to delete some folder and reload I do not know where to go to find that folder to delete it. I do not want to erase my calendar by mistake while I am wandering around the site trying to fix something. I am not well aquainted with the technical side of wordpress. I have no idea why the plug-in disappeared from my list to begin with. It was working just fine last time I added some events. Event Calendar works fine, but I cannot do my recurring events and other options I need with the Pro version.
I have not tried the first and second options in the list below because the Pro isn’t on the plug-in list to begin with so could not see how that would help and again I was afraid I would mess up something on my original work. Thanks for you assistance.

KeymasterJan,
I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your plugins. I will try to help you get this sorted.
Sometimes things can get borked on the server with file permissions or other technical issues. The easiest way to fix this is to just delete the folder and re-upload it.
To do this, you will need FTP access to your website. Do you have this access? Or is there someone you can contact that does?
Once you have access, just delete the old events-calendar-pro folder from wp-content/plugins, and then replace it with the latest version from theeventscalendar.com. When you log in to your account, you will find this under your downloads page.
If you are going to manually upload the plugin via FTP, you will need to “unzip” it before uploading. If you are going to try and upload through the WordPress plugins interface, you should leave it “zipped.”
You do not need to worry about losing your events or other data when deleting the plugin. Everything is stored safely in the database.
Let me know if that helps, or if you have any more questions.
Thanks,

ParticipantSKY, Thanks for your assistance. We used to use FTP a long long time ago. To my knowledge I do not have this anymore, and if I did I likely would not know what I was doing. I just sent a second message out about 5 minutes ago that I have now lost my plain Events Calendar from my plug-ins as well as the Pro version so of course I have no calendar at all on my site at present. I was trying to do an update to the Events Calendar and it said it was under maintenance and to try later and then it was simply gone altogether. I am afraid if I just download the calendar again I will lose all my work on the existing one I had yesterday as well as the recurring events I lost last week. I am very frustrated at this point. hoping you can help. Jan

ParticipantFollow-up I have my web page designer looking into if he still has the FTP for our site. I have forwarded him the information you sent on the Pro version, but any help you can offer on why the plain Events Calendar disappeared would likely be very useful to him as well. Thanks. J

KeymasterHi again,
I have no explanation for disappearing plugins. This is something you should investigate with your host.
You can reinstall the plugins without fear of losing your settings or other event data, as they are stored in the database and not in the plugin folders themselves.
Backups are an important part of maintaining a site, and you should always make a backup before updating anything. Many hosts take automatic backups. Perhaps there is a backup you can revert to, when everything was working?
Just about any host will provide a way to access the server with FTP. They may also provide some sort of admin panel where you can upload files as well.
You can just drop new copies of both plugins in the wp-content/plugins directory and re-enable them, and be back in business.
Hope that helps.
Thanks,

ParticipantSky, Thank you so much for your assistance. I was finally able to get to my web page designer and he was able to get into my FTP program and remove the old files and reload my Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro. Still a puzzle what happened to them to begin with, but all is good now and nothing was lost. J
