Hey! I bought the PRO plugin thinking that the “mini-calendar” shortcode was the main event calendar located at /events/ but realized quickly it’s intended mainly for widgets in sidebars – which is cool but not exactly what I was hoping for.

Is it possible to embed the /events/ calendar somewhere else? Even if it means creating/customizing some theme files and what not to create my own “template or theme” to make it work?

The reason we need it is because we are running a membership site with multiple tiers and I want to show 1 calendar for X Tier and another calendar for Y Tier. I have set up the events with categories that pertain to these Tiers. I know how to show the /events/ calendar with the category (/events/category/x/ or /y/) which is the exact look and feel I want but it’s not acceptable for me to allow people to change the URL to “/events/” and see events they shouldn’t be seeing.

I tried out the Rocket Event add on (with the free version of The Events Calendar) but it didn’t show the calendar like I wanted it to. So I bought PRO hoping that I could embed the killer /events/ calendar anywhere I wanted but it’s not allowing me to. Is there any way to embed the /events/ calendar anywhere? Or to tell Rocket Event to use the /events/ template to build the calendar?

Please tell me this is possible!

    Hey Michael,

Thanks so much for reaching out! So sorry about the mix-up there with shortcodes and which ones are included — I can see how that would be confusing and I hope it didn’t cause too much frustration.

I really wish I had a good solution for you, but I’m afraid the Event Rocket plugin is the closest thing to being able to embed the full calendar on a page or post with a shortcode. We just recently introduced shortcodes for the first time and hope to expand on the variety available in future releases.

I think it would be possible to recreate the calendar with your own template, but it would take a fair amount of custom development to make it work. I wonder if one way to go about it would be to construct a new page template, include the calendar template files, then make sure the calendar styles and scripts are set to enqueue there as well. Our documentation is available here to help you get started.

    Cheers!

Thanks for getting back to me on that. That sounds like a possible longer term solution that I’ll definitely try out when we have some extra development time. As for right now, I just integrated the mini calendar into a 1/3 of the page and on the other 2/3 I explained what the different types of events were. That works for us now! But would be AWESOME to allow people to embed that main calendar – that calendar is awesome and definitely a staple in your plugin, being able to put it anywhere I want is key. I’ll keep the PRO version in hopes that you’ll integrate this functionality in the future.

Thanks so much, Michael! That sounds like a solid workaround for the time being and I totally agree that replicating the main calendar on any page or post would be awesome. Please do keep your eyes peeled for more updates to shortcodes in future releases. You can also add your vote for to the feature request here to receive updates as progress is made. 🙂

Thanks again for reaching out and feel free to get back in touch if anything else pops up.

    Cheers!
    Geoff
