Portuguese (Pt_pt) translation: expressions missing

Hi,

I’m having a few issues with the Portuguese translation of The Events Calendar Pro. Unfortunately I don’t have any access to the web server file system (long story, still working through it).

The main issues I have are:

– ‘Eventos for week of’ should be ‘Eventos da semana de’
– ‘Recurring Eventos’ should be ‘Eventos recorrentes’
– ‘Evento Categories’ should be ‘Categorias do Evento’ or ‘Categorias’
– ‘Evento Etiquetas’ should be ‘Etiquetas do Evento’ or ‘Etiquetas’
– ‘Related Eventos’ should be ‘Eventos Relacionados’

Additionally, every time I hover over a recurring event, I get a mix of Portuguese and English in the description.

As I said I am currently unable to edit these on the back end of the site – how could I update them otherwise? I am working on full .mo and .po translations to submit to you but I would appreciate it if you were able to take care of this before then.

Hi George,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! I have been translating in the WordPress Translation site, here:

I read somewhere that recommended translating there. Would translating in The Events Calendar be more appropriate? I’m very confused as to the number of translation places available. Is there an approximate timeframe for the translations to get approved? Is there some way I could help with expediting it?

Sorry if I’m being too insistent/ inquisitive , but I’d really like to see this resolved as soon as possible (and I do appreciate that it would be SO much easier if I had access to the back end of my website – still working on it)

Hey Isabel,

At this time, there is unfortunately no set time-frame for when translations are approved. And I totally agree with you about there being too many places to manage translations – that’s one of the reasons we try to keep conversations about them here to a minimum! It would be a great thing to have conversations like these right on the translation site, instead of our forums, but this is the best configuration for now. Thank you for being patient with it!

Now, as for where it’s best to post translations, for The Events Calendar it is wordpress.org, but only by a bit – if you submit translations, they will not be lost in either case and if approved will make it into the plugin. I unfortunately do not know when the next release will happen and when translations will next be approved 🙁

To be clear, you do not need to wait for us to translate anything yourself. The big “main” translation process with approval is only for translations that people are submitting to be default, community-shared translations.

So if things are very urgent, you can manually translate things with an application like PoEdit. Then, you’d have an up-to-date version of the file customized for your own site. This wouldn’t be available to the community unless you submitted the translations and stuff, but would work for you. If you’re not familiar with translating files locally on your computer like with PoEdit, that’s not something we can help with here on the forums but there are many resources online about doing that, so definitely explore this if needed.

I appreciate your patience with all of this. Believe it or not, our translation system used to be even less solid. It was simpler, but took more manual work on our end and it was much much harder for the community to share translations.

I’m sorry about some of the inherent limitations currently in place, but hope the information I’ve shared here is helpful.

Hi George,

Thank you again for that. It really helps (just found out I have been translating in both sites under different logins and I’m almost done with the whole thing, so hopefully when it gets approved it will be close to 100% translated! Appreciate I may have got some things wrong due to lack of context and recent changes to orthographical rules).

I finally have access to FTP and cPanel on my site (after months of trying to figure them out) so I should be able to update the translations to suit my needs. I would be more than happy to submit my files to the community when they are finished, if you think they will be helpful to anyone else – shall I just post a link to them here?

Before I close this thread, I want to respond to your last question where you ask if you should post your translation files here. You should not do this – you would have to copy and paste your translation suggestions into one of the official translation channels, where they can be approved and so on. See the three articles I linked to up above in this thread for more reference here…
