Plugin Update Taking Forever – Duplicating Recurring Events

I updated our test site earlier, no problem. Now I’m updating the plugins on our live site. I’m currently trying to run the update for the Community Events plugin. It’s duplicating the recurring events 10-20 times, and is still “Updating” the plugin after 20 minutes. I’m hesitant to halt the process and run the update again, because it will continue to duplicate the events.

The Calendar plugins had not been updated for quite some time: Events Calendar PRO updated without issue from 3.4. The Community Events plugin is also being updated from 3.4 to 3.12.

If “Updating” continues to spin, I’m considering deleting the Community Events plugin via FTP and uploading the new version through the WordPress backend. Is there any reason I shouldn’t try this?

I went ahead and deleted the plugin via FTP, then uploaded the updated version in the WordPress back end. I have to go through and delete duplicated recurring events (there are hundreds), but at least it’s updated!
